Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
Bridges is getting the Gerald Wallace treatment the first few years Gerald Wallace was in Charlotte.
Go stand in the corner and game watch 99% of the time and only be involved when it’s a broken play or a 4th option catch and shoot.
It was only Wallace’s 3/4th year when we started actually designing and running plays for him that we saw what he could do and he started being a 20ppg player.
And an All Star.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
everyone can't be gerald wallace
i thought mkg was gerald wallace
(even though wallace could actually put the ball on the floor, wasn't a lotto pick, played for different teams before charlotte, didn't have the benefit of an all-star taking away all the offensive pressure, etc)
meanwhile miles did nothing again in denver besides dunk hard. the last 'good game' he had that didn't come in garbage time was almost a month ago. if this was a team with established vets that wasn't struggling to stay at .500, i'd be pretty indifferent
but not being able to beat out some of these guys is not exciting.

Watched first game last night in awhile and he looked just really disinterested in doing anything but getting in position and playing defense. Maybe he's been hanging out with MKG too much?

but, he evens plays as the 5th option in garbage time recently. might be a mental thing. hope he develops some on ball skills this summer. hate to see him fall into the rut of 3/d guy who never has plays run for him.

Glad I sold my miles shares two weeks ago. His price has been dropping ever since. When was the last time he made a shot outside of one foot?

Obviously the best way to handle 20 year old prospects is to give up on them and trade them as soon as they hit their first rough patch.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
Nobody here is giving up on him. I'm not literally selling miles as in giving up on him. I'm just starting to believe that his ceiling is much lower than I had originally hoped. Even as a rookie, usually with players who develop into Stars, you will see glimpses of their potential very early, whether it's a pass or a series of plays or one fantastic game Etc. Miles gives us none of that outside of his thunderous dunks. There is not one thing in his game outside of his athleticism right now that catches my eye and makes me think wow, give him three or four more years and we really got something. The first time I saw miles play in Summer League my impression of him was a more athletic treveon Graham with a slightly better handle.Braggins wrote:Obviously the best way to handle 20 year old prospects is to give up on them and trade them as soon as they hit their first rough patch.

its not about giving up on him, its about him actually being exactly what people thought he was outside of dunking hard
we don't need yet another situation where we cling to an asset until it loses all value. not being a jerk or anything but that's pretttttttttty common with this franchise. that and clinging to mid level talent until it becomes a liability
outside of kemba, its been basically no one

I believe SGA will be the better player that would’ve been very complimentary to Monk in the starting lineup.
Also there’s the possibility that Porter Jr will reach his ceiling and expectations of himself before injuries deterred his one-and-done season at Mizzou.
There’s no upside to drafting Miles Bridges, only hope that he could be a valuable rotation player. It’s goIng to be interesting to see what position he can defend in the NBA. If I had to make a educated guess on where I think he’d fare better it would be PF but I still expect him to struggle in that aspect. And that’s without mentioning that I’ve noticed a questionable shot selection and efficiency with him on the college level.
I said this in June 2018 and I still feel this way.
Had we drafted SGA we’d be in perfect position to trade Kemba for assets and build for the future.

Before his recent funk where he seems to have lost all his confidence he would occasionally make some really nice drives and hes show the ability to finish and shoot floaters with both hands. His handle isn't terrible and is something that could easily develop. Hes made some really nice passes in transition with either hand. He was actually really good at punishing teams for switching smalls onto him, but they've stopped doing that recently. I still think his outside shooting is going to be fine, but it could take some time.
I think the limits on his ceiling are mostly mental. I can totally get the concern there, but its not uncommon at all for really young players to have waves of struggles like this early in their career when teams get scouting and adjust to their playstyles and they have to figure out how to counter. I think his recent slump shows some potential for him developing too much of a role players mind set, but I'm not ready to read much into at this point.
I think how he develops could give us a good idea of whether Borrego's development program is actually legit or not. I'm really curious to see how he looks after a full summer of development. He has enough going for him that it would be really disappointing if the coaching staff can't develop at least a pretty good starter out of this kid.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
the stuff you're quoting happened less than two dozen times over 40 games now.
guys were saying he's been relegated to the shame corner but that makes zero sense - the corner 3 is the most efficient shot in basketball and we need those shots more than ever. also, there's no reason at all why he's so bad off the ball. no one seems to really bring that up either.... he's got a role. be open, hit shots. ball goes up? find it. if you're gonna drive, be in a position to do so. but his shot is BROKE, he's not a ball hawk, and if he's more than 3 steps from the rim not only is he lost but he sucks at following his shots
and that last part is what bugs me more than anything else. if he can't do much due to his skillset right now, his physicality and motor should have him much MUCH more active on the boards. he's basically a less skilled jeff taylor playing out of position
if some team loves his highlight dunks and thinks we're not giving him the chance he deserves and wants him added to a great deal? im just saying don't lose sleep over it...
if we trade kemba, sure give him time. we wouldn't be going anywhere. otherwise, kemba needs help and he's a looooooong ways off

Bridges was drafted in the worst possible situation for his development. He was drafted into mediocrity when he should’ve been taken by a team with lesser talent. The Hornets seem content with trying to be a first round exit over building a team with higher goals.
Bridges’ shot isn’t broken, to me it’s as mechanically compact as they come for a 20 year old. He just isn’t a dead eye shooter. He isn’t just a catch and shoot player, he’s a rhythm scorer. He needs to be part of an offense to warm up from the perimeter. He comes off the bench with 2 minutes left in the first and is still the 4th option out there.
He is left in the corner to be a floor spacer. Regardless on how efficient that shot is, he gets it far too infrequently to ever be a consistent threat from that spot. It’s no surprise that the only talent Charlotte has developed is a player that always has the ball in his hands. You guys don’t know how to develop talent and that’s probably why Bridges didn’t even workout for the Hornets.

MKG spending his whole career here will be one of the Hornetsiest things you could Hornets.

Re: Birdland Presents - The Miles Bridges Thread
I actually still really want Borrego to try starting him. I know hes playing really bad and Its going to be rough at times, but I want Borrego to challenge him defensively and I think he'll have less pressure on offense and get more clean looks with the starting unit. I don't think its necessarily going to make the team better, at least initially, but Batum also just sucks and I don't see any upside to giving him so many minutes when we are losing game after game anyways.
