If the G-Leaguers gonna expose him, he's done in the NBA. He knows that

He is not "too good" for a rehabilitation week in the after being out so long. You see even superstars in the mlb go down to AAA all the time when coming off an injury
Maybe he knows he’s done & didn’t wanna get punked by the G League players.
Being on an actual nba team will allow him to linger around just long enough to secure his next contract.

Say what you want about his actions lately, he played into that contract and has been milking it since. I get the feeling he just doesnt love basketball anymore, and who am I to judge.
I look at him as one of the most over valued players in recent memory along with Bynum, Josh Smith, and Howard.
I don't know that I'd say he "played" his way into those contracts. Most people knew both the Dallas and Memphis deals were overpays the moment they were signed.
What Parsons and his agent did was take advantage of franchises (Dallas, Portland, Memphis) that have historically struggled to attract free agents.
While that's exactly what a good agent is supposed to do, I also think is reasonable to expect some blowback, especially from fans, if that player doesn't live up to that contract.

That note he left Memphis written for the Players Tribune rings so incredibly false. Maybe it's time for him to write another! Sounds like he has the time

I think this comment from back in Sept. explains it pretty well:
...the biggest reason Parsons has become such an unlikable character is, in addition to being grossly overpaid (especially for a player who has virtually zero achievements in his pro career), that he gives the appearance of a guy that doesn't make his basketball career a priority and he has a had number of documented d-bag moments.
Fans are generally willing to cut a player some slack if they are overpaid but are seen as a genuinely nice guy.
They will accept if you are less talented or injury prone but show great desire and effort.
They'll even tolerate it if you are a d-bag, but a helluva player on the court.
But you can't be overpaid AND (perceived as) lazy, AND douchey then expect fans to embrace you.

At this stage of his career Parson can still turn the corner like Derrick Rose did, only except if his knees are completely busted now and his PR team is trying their best to conceal this fact so that he can still sniff opportunities somewhere.

The question is whether he has the same dedication to his body that Rose did. And I think we know the answer.

Why the hate on Chandler Parsons

I always thought some people overvalued Chandler Parsons based on his attributes. He was a 6-foot-10 small forward who could shoot from outside, handle the ball a little bit and was a willing passer -- things at which he was above average compared to the standard small forward skill set, but nothing at an all-star level. Parsons was similar to Nicolas Batum in that people liked his variety of skills, even though he did not perform any one skill that at a high level.
Even during his time in Houston, it was apparent Parsons liked the lifestyle of what the NBA afforded him more than being a player. Parsons also seemed to have an inflated opinion of himself as a player; I remember him making the national rounds with the media bragging how he recruited Dwight Howard to come to Houston and how he was going to recruit other players to create a dynasty in Houston. One year later, Parsons is posting pictures of himself and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban at a bar and he is announcing he is going to Dallas.
When Parsons got his large payday in Memphis, it really seemed like he cared more about the lifestyle than playing. There was the trip to Cancun during the middle of the 2016-17 season, where he posted pictures on Instagram of a school bus-filled posse and him boarding a private jet (complete with groupies wearing "Chancun" hats) after Memphis shut him down for the season and he played poorly when he was available:

Two months earlier, Parsons got into a social media argument with Portland's C.J. McCollum where Parsons responded, "Technically, I hit the lottery" after McCollum said the TrailBlazers hit the lottery by not signing him. Parsons evidently was talking about his contract with Memphis, which once again showed poor timing because he already missed 28 out of 48 games and played poorly when he was available:

Suffice to say, it doesn't sit well with an organization known for its "Grit and Grind" mantra and a fan base in an economically challenged city that the Grizzlies will pay nearly $100 million to a player who played only in 73 out of 200-plus games (and largely did not play well). Then to make matters worse, the player is posting images and videos regularly living this rock-star lifestyle while he's on the injured list. At best, Parsons looked like he was tone deaf to his criticism; at worst, he seemed to care more about living it up than playing.
Kevin Johnson isn't "Michael Jordan" famous ... he's "Mitch Richmond" famous

His contract should be voided if he’s not willing to play a couple games in the G League to get his rhythm back.

Re: [Woj] Goodbye Parsons
I had to look up his stats to see how good he actually was before his injuries because I remember him being ok, nothing special. His 4 year healthy run from 12/13 - 15/16 were actually pretty damn good. Average of about 15, 5 and 3 on excellent percentages. Unfortunate that injuries absolutely ruined him, I'm not sure that he will command too much in terms of a trade.

It's sad and ridiculous that players have no responsibilities after signing their big contract, that's bound to just create a bunch of con artists like Parsons.

I believe every should be able to amnesty 1 player every 5 years. That's 2 players a decade. It completely protect both the players and the owners. Player gets paid, the owner isn't on the hook for the tax purposes, and gets that cap space to add future players. I can see the rockets, Lakers, warriors, celtics, Sixers, pelicans, making a offer for him once he hits the wire. Possibly the kings, jazz, nuggets, raptors also. Small till end of the year cheap deals. But he still will have a market.
I had to jump off the boat to walk on water.

He should retire. Definitely not NBA caliber and was never that good in the first place.

You give a guy a contract that was indefensible in the first place, and now he's medically cleared to play. If you don't want to play him, that's entirely your choice, but come out and give a statement with some level of transparency. This radio silence just makes the organization look like they won't own up to their mistakes.
For all of parsons' real and perceived faults, he isn't doing anything unreasonable right now. He wants to play and they hadn't properly communicated with him.
Yeah, they have really buggered this up. I'm not sure why their reluctance to set timeline but it indicates there's a larger issue between the two parties.

Why not just throw the dude out in garbage minutes? lol NBA GMs have fantastic job security. I wish I could get a job where I can flagrantly flush 50 mil down the toilet because somebody didn't kiss my butt well enough.
There should be a clause that if you refuse to play in the D league the team can get out of the contract.
Yeah, you do need to get it straight first.

Good post. I do remember when Chandler Parsons first signed with Mavs he was saying the right things, like how he wanted to replace Dirk as the new franchise player and take his game to the new level. The thing with Parsons is he's just not very good and he knows it himself. Mark Cuban is the real sucker it seems, he got fooled twice by pretty much same player in the same situation.
Chandler Parsons plays with an all time great (harden) and looks better than he actually is, Cuban pays him. Harrison Barnes plays with an all time great (curry) and looks better than he actually is, Cuban pays him.

I do not understand why the Grizzlies need to explain anything. They hired Parsons and can do what they want with him.
The Parsons exchange with McCollum was a joke between the two. Douchey given his situation but it shouldn't be taken seriously.
