So if something happens with Love this season, it's going to have to happen fast. And it's almost certainly going to have to involve a contending team that isn't afraid to take chances. Two teams that make sense on both fronts are Oklahoma City and Houston, one of the execs said.
The Thunder already have committed to being a tax team, and they have a defined window to get the most out of Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Adding to the intrigue, Westbrook and Love were teammates at UCLA. The Thunder also have a defensive-minded center, Steven Adams, which could make it easier to hide Love defensively at power forward. It doesn't hurt that GM Sam Presti essentially has lifetime job security, so even if acquiring Love didn't produce the desired result, he'd have plenty of time to figure out how to offload the contract or rework it some other way to minimize the damage down the road.

FWIW I heard Royce on the sports animal yesterday and he made it sound like he doesn’t expect OKC to take on additional salary, use the Melo TPE or give up on Ferguson.

if they had intentions of blowing up the tax any more than it already was they would have kept singler's contract on the books.

Love intrigues me because he's also an excellent rebounder, and OKC favors guys who hit the glass hard (probably cause the shooting sucks).

i think he's just too expensive. unless cleveland was somehow taking back schroder in the deal i don't see how it could work. if they were willing to do something around schroder + dre i think it makes a lot of sense but i don't see it from cleveland's pov.

Especially if Houston offers multiple firsts.

right. houston ownership could very well put the kabosh on love's salary commitment, though.

Yeah, I think I'm with you on all that. I don't think they trade Adams for him, and that's the only other way to make it work comfortably with salary.

adams for love makes sense but doesn't at the same time. i'd be really nervous about losing adams, his particular skill set seems to be what the team is built around (at least, the success of the starters) more than anything.
that would be such an interesting and controversial trade. i almost wish it would happen for all the debate it would cause.

If they could both be had for similar packages would we prefer love or porter?

Eh....Porter? I don't know. Love at his best was >> Porter, but is "that Love" still there?
EDIT:
Screw it, get them both

Raymond Felton might go in to cardiac arrest when he has to start playing 37 minutes a game

Kevin Love?! He is an awful contract and would ruin the only thing that is making this team good. Defense.

One is an elite defender, the other a traffic cone.
One is 24 and not yet in their prime, the other is 30 with injury history going downhill.
Grant has same TS numbers as Love last year.
Loves a better offensive player, but Grant is catching up - his defensive superiority makes up for the difference.
Then you add in Schroder, a top 3 6th man and it's not even worth considering trading both.

Yeah, I wouldn’t touch Love with a ten-foot pole. There are better ways to get the Thunder what Love provides (3-pt shooting; rebounding) for way cheaper...
