I’m sorry I didn’t like the term pluck from our roster. I realize we are feathery friends but we don’t run a chicken mill/coop for your desired picking! Stop testing our cow’s milk and buy the damn thing already. Lol. Sorry this comes from years of the media acting like we a farm system. I realize Lin wasn’t ours just making a point.

I was thinking the same.
What exactly do they have to offer? Not interested in taking on 2019/20 salary for a 2nd since to match salaries they'll probably want to send CJ Miles who isn't an expiring, Delon Wright is interesting but he's coming up on RFAcy. Send on OG then I'm interested.

Yep, if they want us to take on money, we need to take on O.G. Otherwise, not interested at all.

jayu70 wrote:This is some interesting info from Travis Schlenk regarding trade deadline, draft etc. from his recent Podcast interview with Bumbling Brad which I thought I'd post here:

-Juggling job responsibilities as the trade deadline approaches and a pivotal draft looms.
1. He's at some college games if he needs to be.
2. Getting calls on vets.
3. He has no interest in taking on long term salary for 2nds.
4. He said he knew some fans were upset for him not trading Beli and Illy but he had no interest in taking on added salary for 2nds.
5. On Dedmon picking up his option, he was concerned if Hawks drafted a big he would be relegated to the bench for development of the big. TS assured him if that was the case as the season went on he'd do right by him and move him.
6. He intimated (and I'm interpreting) that if by some miracle the team continues to play well and say get to 41 wins then that's when they would look to sign big FAs as the team would be ready to win, but he's happy with his 2 top 10 picks  in 2019. He said they projected the Dallas pick would end up at #8.
7. He's not looking to acquire anymore 2019 picks (we have 5, 2 1s and 3 2nds). He did make a good point on 2nd rounders which I didn't think about - they usually sign a 2 year deal, if they outplay the contract you have no bird rights and you are limited in what you can pay them, some other team can swoop in and nab them.
8. He feels for players when there names get thrown out in trade talks, they're human and have families etc.....but all the players want is honesty about whatever is happening.
9. He wants future 1sts, so 2020 and beyond.
10. He always wants to have assest and financial flexibility.
11. Opportunities to trade these pick for young players.

That's good stuff, can't believe I missed the pt hoops interview. You basically have to sig this so people can understand him since Schlenk is not a widely known GM. Sorta of surmised all of the points as that's been his stance since his hire.

Prince - considers him one of the better spot up 3 shooters, eventually a 40% shooter from deep.
1. Says he's seen 39 teams in college already, some multiple times. Basically all the draft guys we talk about he's scouted personally, curious to see his big board.
5. He seems on trying to build an open atmosphere with the players and their people which in turn could create better FA opportunities.
6. I think he wants to buy alittle more time but it could happen quicker if you hit with the 2019 draft ala Zion and bpa Mavs pick.
7. I guess less and less chances on 2nd rounders, which makes sense especially with drafts that have multiple 1st rounders.

Goodness, Brad is sounding like Napoleon Dynamite more and more by the day.

NBA trade rumors: With Kyle Lowry out, Raptors search for playmaking help

Call it the Friday Rumor-rama. (Or don’t.)

All-Star, Kyle Lowry, sat idly in a black warmup suit, in back of the bench.

Lowry was out for the fifth straight game with a bad back, an injury that has dogged him since the end of November. Toronto has gone just 9-8 since his injury, which has brought a serious issue with the Raptors into sharp relief: They’re very, very low on players with playmaking skills outside of Lowry.

While Fred VanVleet is an excellent second-unit point guard, the offense isn’t as dynamic and Wright is forced to take on too much ball handling with the second unit.

So what’s to be done? A trade, of course.

The best possibility would be Minnesota’s Jeff Teague.

Maybe the best option would be to pluck Jeremy Lin from the Hawks. Lin has been solid in coming back after knee surgery, averaging 10.4 points and 3.3 assists in 18.6 minutes, making 38.6 percent of his 3-pointers. That’s a good fit. Plus, he’d be plenty motivated to stick it to the Nets by going from the bottom-dwelling Hawks to a contender.
Sporting News

Over on our friendly board from the North, I saw the following proposals.

Miles + Delon + Malachi
For
Jeremy Lin + VC

Financially, saves over 3 Mil this year and Miles's contract (8+mil) next year.
Talent wise, we just get more prepared and finished players for a playoff push. Jeremy Lin might actually be able to get some chemestry with JV off the bench.

I mentioned this a few weeks back, but it was Powell + Miles for Lin+ Carter

If we're intent on keeping OG, which looks to be the case, we might as well be giving him minutes, trading Powell and Miles solves that issue. Carter gives us another option behind OG, also allowing him to mentor him.

Lin is a far better creator than Delon and can run an offence. Delon is more of SG, so also Lin to run the point for the 2nd unit.
He's known to share the rock, let him do what he's actually good at.

I get that Powell is still young but for his production, that contract is horrendous.

And Miles would be an idiot to turn down his player option for next season.

Basically their proposals are for Atlanta to eat salary at no cost.

You can go to any team forum and most of the trades are pretty bad for the team that is not their team.

Logically, Lin trade will be hard with any team as well are looking for three things.

1. A lottery protected future 1st. This might be too rich for teams blood.
2. A matching expiring not in your future plans. Once again, might be too rich and honestly, this is the most critical. We have no interest in taking in cash.
3. We are potentially looking to resign him so giving him away is not an option. Meaning don't wait for the buyout period. Chances are, he will still be here.

We have around 57 million in cap space 6 open spots, 5 min. 10-15 million is expected to be used for draft picks, that's 3 spots more than likely. Another 8-10 million for Lin resigning. That leaves us with 30-35 million to sign a legit NBA center with a 3rd year team option or to get a player like Ryan Anderson or Mozgov and a protected top 3 1st round pick from either Orlando or Phoenix in 2020.

Our plan is simple, high reward with low risk trades only. We see Lin and Dedmon as major assets. Expirings in this FA class matters.

Here is a trade I seen on the trade board and why this is an easy no.

To New York
-Jeremy Lin (1 year, $13.7 million)
-Justin Anderson (1 year, $2.6 million)

To Atlanta
-Courtney Lee (2 years, $25 million)
-Frank Ntilikina (2 years, $9 million plus TO)
-2022 2nd round pick
-2024 2nd round pick

The biggest reason why this is an easy no is the value is really Frank N. and two 2nds.

With Lee's contract being the negative asset.

I see Frank as a potential solid backup PG which is worth about 4-6 million on the open market. Especially for us. I like Frank. I think 4-6 million is a decent backup type. Not the 8-10 million for an elite backup PG like Collison, Lin or today's D. Rose.

two 2nds likely mid or late is worth about 400k a piece. Not worth much in terms of trade value.

So the asset value coming in is around 4.8 to 6.8 million.
The negative value coming in is 13 million.

The positive value going out is 16.3 million.

This net value is for us is estimated -7.2 million dollars.

This is a horrible deal.

Considering the value, if they replaced Knox with Frank. The value would instantly change to 6.7 million for us as Knox value is 36 million. Considering how high Knox's value is, it's unlikely NY will be willing to trade him. We have Collins who is also at 36 million and Trae is at 48 million which is normal for a high pick, well performing rookie, on a rookie deal.

Nah. Lin is still useful for us. Ross would be worthless here.

I like Lin, most Magic fans want Dennis Smith and Matthew's for Vuc and Ross.

I wrote a comment but it disappeared. I don't know who Keith Smith is. Also kind of doubt we trade Jeremy without getting a lightly protected first.

A lightly protected 1st rounder for 3 months of Jeremy Lin?

Here's hoping!

Probably not i know but the only other possibility would be a young backup PG. If it's just a 2nd rounder or something then we might as well keep him unless we're worried about winning too much. Not having a real 2nd PG on the team would not be good.

Players that spark my interest and could come cheap for us..relatively cheap.

Malik Monk - Guessing Hornets wanna hang on to him, really like him he’s a gunner and young. Fits as our new age Flip Murray.

Marquese Chriss- He’s stuck in Houston loads of talent. Could come cheap.

Dragan Bender- see above

These guys are still young, on cheap contracts and seem to fit our roster moving forward.

Thoughts?

Monk is in his 2nd year. Going nowhere.

Chriss and Bender are going to be UFAs this offseason.

I don't see these three as a good fit for what we need but Bender might get some interest

I haven’t seen a ton of Hornets games, what’s going on with the Monkster? I really like his shooting he reminds me of a microwave Lou Will type.

We can sign Bender ala Alex Len in offseason.
Chriss bothers me - missing a lil heart, seems entitled.

Hey Spud...
Valanciunas and your boy OG for Lin and Dedmon.
The only thing is Val as a $17 mil player option for next season, so I'm not sure I like it. Maybe we can move Val later - he's still a good player and will be an expiring next season.
