Let's say Kemba is elgible for a supermax. Do we have leverage in a sign and trade this summer if that's what Kemba wants? He wouldn't have ability to choose any place but he gets more money. Of course, not sure what team would be in much better position to give us assets in that type of deal.

I think supermax players can't be traded until a year after they're signed.

There is a decent chance Kemba will not be eligible for the supermax anyway. Unless I'm mistaken he'll have to make an all-nba team this season, which is certainly possible, but is no guarantee if we finish with 38ish wins as usual and miss the playoffs. If we have a successful year and make the playoffs I fully expect him to stay, not just because he'll probably be eligible for the super max in that case but it definitely doesn't hurt.

Will the people of Charlotte hate Kemba if he decide to walk?

I mean he’s stated last year that he’s to the point where he just wants to make the playoffs and how he hates watching them. This year he’s been PR friendly by stating that he wants to be in Charlotte and that he’ll leave the decision making to Mitch. I don’t know how anyone would be surprised if he walks this summer. I’m currently leaning towards that being exactly what he’ll do.

Stand pat, ride out the bad contracts we already have until they are off the books (Bats, Cody, Biz, Marv, MKG), resist making any snap decisions that lead to additional bad contracts (by either trading for already existing bad contracts or signing FA’s to over bloated contracts/re-signing our players to over bloated contracts) then reboot in 2020/21.

Got to ride this crap out for a few years until we are in the clear again.

Then why not opt to trade kemba for assets. You can still ride it out and reboot in 2020. I think if we do nothing and miss the playoffs or finish in the 8th seed and get swept, he is leaving. He's not going to stick around for another year of status quo.

I agree with catch that option C should not even be an option. Either you trade him or you trade to get him some help. It's time to pick a Direction.

If we traded him we’d have to take equal salary back.

I also think that trading him ahead of the hometown all star game would be very bad optically.

And finally, I think it would be very hard to trade him. Why would any team trade for an upcoming pure UFA when they could just sign him over the summer without giving up any assets?

Choice B is relative to the assets you can get to put with Kemba. I don’t think there’s much to get with the “assets” we have to offer. That’s why I pick A, not because it wouldn’t hurt to lose Kemba. It’s a better option than standing pat, while getting us the most value possible to help our rebuild.

i want option A, but the sad truth is that NBA is a business and they have to consider public opinion and the cost of trading the marquee player before the All Star game. So i cant see it happening.

Option A is the more realistic yet harsh truth that I doubt the city of Charlotte has big enough balls to swallow.

LA - good climate and play with Lebron, probably go deep in the playoffs but as Robin rather then Batman

Clippers - could be a dark horse but other players seem to be higher on their list

Charlotte - get the most money, all the shots you want, get to be the best player on the team, probably less pressure on him, less chance to make playoffs but greater rewards if winning is accomplished, and don't have to move (moving is pain in ass)

I think there is a 99% chance he stays if we don't make any moves.

LAL should be his first choice but he won’t be LA’s first choice as they sought after AD, Kawhi, and etc. but the Lakers will go after him if they can’t land those guys.

The Pacers and Magic will likely be the first teams to pursue Kemba and show interest outside of Charlotte.

The Knicks, Bulls, and Nets are other teams that may pursue him.

It’ll be a wide open market. Don’t believe one bit that Kemba won’t have options outside of Charlotte willing to pay.

Also I really don't care if he resigns or doesn't resign. There is a pretty good chance he won't be worth that contract at the end just because it is hard for anyone to sustain that level of play and be worth 35 or 40 mil.

I am willing to pay the man because he has earned it. I think that a team should pay players who deserve it. It sends the right message to our young guys. It is just the right thing to do. Even if the contract turns out bad it isn't like we have ever signed anyone in free agency that is better then current Kemba.

It also isn't like we are totally stuck with a bunch of old guys that have no chance to get better. Most of our players are younger then Kemba or about the same age. Batum is a bad contract but every day that deal is getting shorter. We will be able to trade it at some point.

Everybody wants to give up a pick but there is less enthusiasm about getting rid of Miles and Monk. That pick is the next Miles or Monk. That pick is our next best chance to add someone talented who doesn't cost twice what they are worth.

If we trade our youth or picks for some vet help and it doesn't make us a contender have we put ourselves in a better position? The worst thing any NBA front office can do is be impatient. What if we trade some guys that are close friends of Kemba? It is better to stay the course.

If Kemba wants to leave he deserves the chance to go wherever he wants. I will be happy for him. If I am the gm though I am doing what is best for the team.

Lets say we trade like Monk, a first and some salary filler like biyombo for Beal. If we do that the only way we win is if that team with Kemba and Beal is good enough to win a chip in the next few years. If we keep what we have, monk could get better, the pick could be good or we could sign someone with the money we save once Biyombo expires. Being patient gives us a better chance to improve.

I feel like the East is wide open if we can get another player that can play alongside Kemba and produce on a star level. We’ve been competitive with him as a lone star for years.

If they plan on keeping Kemba everyone should be available from Monk to Miles to Cody to MKG to whoever.

B, without a doubt. The East is as open as it's ever going to be right now. I wouldn't hesitate to trade a 1st, or either of our young guys if it got us a real second option who is on the upswing (think Beal, Harris, Middleton, etc). No Kevin Love though
