Exactly

There is one argument against SAbonis not being as great as his legend, And i said it before, but I want to hear what you think. When 40 year old sabonis returned to Zalgiris, at the time he was NBA role player, but he was still super dominant in the euroleague, super dominant. So, was he really that good in his prime, or inferior euros were just terribly matched up against him from the very beginning? You know what I mean?

That said, Sabonis skills were otherworldy too. He had probably the best hands the game has ever seen, amazing touch, coordination and obviously skill. in early 90's he suffered injury and doctors diagnosed that he will never play again at pro level. That was before he joined NBA, so just to think that he not only managed to return, join the NBA and still be borderline dominant center with zero athleticism left in him is insane.

I am just not sure how much better he was in his prime, he was obviously athletic when he was young, but he was injury prone from very beginning. If he was healthy, he probably would have been the player the legends suggests he was, but I am not sure reality as it is, is a match.

AS' NBA tenure is actually incredibly underrated and would get more attention today where analytics are understood. He was still *incredibly impactful*, even his last year in the NBA...far beyond a "role player."

20.5 PER, .196 WS/48, 4.1 BPM, 1.9 VORP, 113 ORtg, 97 DRtg.

Those are all-star numbers/impact.

Oh yea? now pick Jokics 3year career highlights and put next to that joke you just posted

Yeah, but thats way after AS prime.

You are talking as if Sabonis lost his vision, touch and IQ after injury. He was way more athletic than Jokic but Jokic is better at basketball. SImple as that. I don't understand why do people think that if without injuries Sabonis would be getting triple doubles every 2nd night, he wasn't THAT good. :nonono:

Jokic looks clumsy out there making passes. Most of his spectacular passes seem like they happen more from sheer luck than anything else.

Still, his positioning and awareness cannot be denied.

I’ve seen a lot of great passing bigs but Jokic is the best ever. And I’m not even sure that it’s a close race anymore.

Overall, just a really bad set of observations.

70sFan wrote:He's definitely in conversation. I think Sabonis and Walton are on the same level but they had different roles. Another one that I believe is in conversation is Tom Boerwinkle. Watch any 1970s Bulls game and you'll see that he was truly post playmaker for them - something very few players could have done.

Wes Unseld is also among the very best. His outlet passes are pure art, but his high post playmaking is underrated too.

Of course, it depends on what would you call "best passer". Most crafty? Probably him or Sabonis. Most efficient? Kareem should be mentioned here, Walton too. Wilt was tremendous - Boerwinkle-style but with better outlet passing.

I've been looking for your post. Alvan Adams, as well.

That's tough to do as a big man. And every other game I see him doing a crafty little tip pass to a teammate for an open shot.. no other big man or even point guard really does that as often as him.

Between him and Sabonis for me.

why exactly is it harder as a big man?
is it because the pg can browse the floor when they bring the ball up?

All I ask when I revisit this thread is for new Jokic highlights. That last one delivered pretty good too I must say.

Also yes, he seems to be the best passing big ever, quite honestly, and there were some damn good ones before him.

Jokic is great but there is another young big who may ultimately be as good and this video shows exactly why. What makes Jokic exceptional compared to Vlade is he combines exceptional hands with incredible court vision. As you see in the video Jokic controls the ball quickly with one hand and has the vision to see the open player. Vlade didn’t have those kinds of hands but he did have that vision.

Harry Giles is that player. His hands are enormous and we have seen numerous instances of him snatching the ball out of the air with one hand. He palms the basketball like it’s a grapefruit. He also has tremendous vision. Harry has played maybe 40 games since his Sophomore year in high school so he has some development to get to Jokics level but he has the tools.

Are we talking just centers?

If we're talking "big men" I'd still regard Magic Johnson at 6'9 as a big man who was just able to play a guard position.

I honestly think a part of this is people not wanting to fall under recency bias. I think after Jokic retires, its going to be close to unanimous of him being the best passing big to ever play the game. The dude is only in his 4th season and already has the best passing mix tape out of any big and its not just highlights. The dude has averaged 5, 6 and now 7 assists a game the last 3 years.

My interpretation is more positional than height. Magic was a tall guard, but not a ''bigman''

Yeah, after I created a poll I remembered him almost instantly. I also wanted to include Diaw, but I didnt wanted to be called out as Euro fanboy again, there were too many Euros in the poll already

What separates him from other great big men passers , is that he passes the ball like the most creative point guards who ever played basketball , he can make every possible pass from any angle, he's just born with that kind of talenat, you can't teach that skill .

As of this moment, he is already the top 3 big men passer in the NBA. Once he plays for 10 or more years and still maintain this level of play, then he is definitely THE BEST NBA passer ever. Let's just enjoy the ride guys and be a fan of basketball for the next 10+ years.
