It really is encouraging to watch how this is unfolding recently. Trae get his shot to fall a little more and watch out! We might be smelling playoffs next year. East is wide open after the top 5 teams.

I love these kids and I like the direction the Hawks are going. I also want Taurean to be a part of this core, but he has to be the 2 way SF that we all know he is capable of being. Him coming back and being that 3 and D guy could speed this rebuild up.

Our young core is honestly too good for us to properly tank. We will probably play .500 ball the rest of the year.

Actually I was going to say nearly the opposite. I think we're missing a star player. I don't think Collins or Young are likely to be top 20 players. I'm tired of having middling playoff teams in Atlanta.

I wish we could commit to the tank this year and try to get a top 2 pick too add to Kevin, Young, and Collins. Unfortunately we're winning too many games to land an elite player and whiffed on Doncic.

I agree, Trae was a boom or bust for me and he actually is looking like a decent NBA starting PG. At first, he was a terrible starting PG who flashed greatness.

Collins, I had high expectations for but damn, his skill is getting better game after game. He hit a clutch fadeaway. I mean ****, is this Karl Malone?

Kevin, I was expecting him to be raw. I saw the potential that he could be better than Klay but I didn't want to curse him. Man, that dude isn't raw and he is a beast as a rookie. He might be better than I thought he was and I see why we wanted to move up for him in the draft.

We just finally did what we been crying we do. Hit on our picks. We need to hit on our picks this year as well and we will be contending for rings.

I disagree. I think Trae could be the best PG in the NBA when he enters his prime. Offensively, he spreads the floor like butter and gives us a chance in any game. One he gets consistent possession by possession. He will be a monster.

Collins just has to produce with more mins. He is currently a 30/16 guy per 100 possessions. That's already pointing to top 10 potential status as a 2nd year player.

Kevin will be an elite scorer if we keep developing him at this rate. Right now, all three our of core pieces, could become top 20 players and better long term. That doesn't mean they are or it's a lock but they are on the right road.

I had Huerter slotted in for ample time in the GLeague, boy was I wrong and glad that I was. :D

I like our core a lot too, guys.

But we might be getting carried away predicting all three to be top-20 players.

The hard part now for Trav is selecting two more lottery players who can fit in with this established threesome...instead of potentially overshadowing them.

(Looking at you Zion and RJ.)

The new lottery odds make it so all the bottom teams have about the same chance of getting number 1.

I would love it if you were right, but they're some issues with those projections. Both Young and Collins don't protect to be good defenders. We'll need at least one All NBA type defender on the team if not two just to make up for their deficiencies.

I have a hard time thinking Young or Collins can be top 20 level but I hope I'm wrong of course.

I kept rationalizing the Doncic trade thinking we're going to get a top pick in this year's draft but having a 5-10 player in the draft will be unlikely to get a transcendent talent.

Hopefully we can trade Prince and Baze for some picks and keep us in bottom 4 zone.

Ice Très, The Huert, and J-Bap combined with 2 2019 lottery picks and 1 acquired star via trade/FAcy has the Hawks back in the playoffs next year, 3rd year of the rebuild, like I’ve always said. So of course I’m LOVING that core. 5 years before Hawks are playing winning basketball again my a$$, pfffffttt. 18 wins and worst team in the league, mmmmhmmm ;P

I agree with your take on their defense. Both Young and Collins aren't going to be very good defenders. Young got more potential than Collins. His lateral quickness is great and he has quick hands. His defensive instincts needs a lot of improvement and you can tell, this is his first year playing D. Collins tries to play D and he is usually in the right place but he is laterally like D. Rose. Just can't keep anyone in front of him that has decent quickness.

Only time will tell. These kids are like 20 years old. We are in a great place.

I like these guys but we are not done building. We have the 2019 draft to keep building.
I just think we are a little ahead of expectations and projections.

Honestly, we are ahead of schedule with all three. I really think Luka once in a lifetime rookie season is making Trae's otherwise tremendous rookie season look average when what Trae is doing is rare for a rookie PG.

This is truly a testament to LP coaching.

This is true for the bottom three teams only. Right now we're not in that group. To be being a 6-9 worst team in the league is worst case. We need the best odds possible to get a top 2 pick. It's not clear to me we have any top 20 projected players on our team, let alone multiple. You have to have 2-3 top 20 players or generational talents, we have none. If we don't tank all in we'll be in the Magic, Kings zone.
