I love Brad Miller, one of my all time favorite players. I would have loved for him to retire as a Pacer, but we had a lot of money tied up in other positions.

no. We are talking about center salary and center minutes.

Pollard was paid 5.3 to play 12 minutes per in 03/04. Foster was paid 4 million for only 24 minutes game. this is apples to apples and center minutes and center money.9.4 for Pollard/Foster 36 mins for 7 million for Miller 36 mins. The Pacers picked Foster to be their center of the future over Brad Miller. The money was nominal.

A Nick Collison jersey retirement thread devolving into an argument about Jeff Foster. I've seen it all

Was just coming to say this haha. Great for Collison and well deserved. Looking forward to seeing when they do this, but what a bizarre turn this thread took.

That's weird. Give him a job, which I think he would excel at; Durant says he's the guy to call about life. But he is nowhere near worthy of a jersey retirement. Foster nor Haslem deserve that honor either.

Every guy who ever played with Collison in Seattle / OKC (including Russ / KD) raves about him as the heart and soul of the team.

This makes a lot of sense to me

The Heat will retire Haslem...they're not mid market. I just don't see the correlation

I get it. But seeing this the same week as the Moses Malone decision, which should have been done EONS ago, is a bit jarring.

Haslem at least has 3 championships to his name, even if he didn’t do much to earn them. Collison and Foster are nothing but fan-favorite borderline bench guys. Retiring either of them is just ridiculous.

Smells like a combination of a middle finger to KD and manufactured dog and pony show by a franchise with a short history.

They're retiring Collison's number to remind themselves that the 3 million per year they wasted on him the past 5 years could have been used to keep James Harden.

Oh, yes. Udonis Haslem would also be a great choice for jersey retirement. Again, lifers should be rewarded. Loyalty is crucial.

I heard the Miami Heat were also looking to retire Collison's jersey.

So if Foster played the same exact role and was carried to three championships, that would somehow change things?

Just weird logic.

Foster was still a key member of some damn good teams.

Of the same ilk as Nick Collison.

I'd be fine with the Pacers retiring Jeff Foster's jersey.

He was a great example of the Pacers mentality and a fan favorite for a long time. Also was on some very good teams for us.

Just to finish up: Pacers should have been World champs in 04 the year they trade Brad Miller.

Pollard played zero minutes against Detroit in the playoffs. Foster, in six games, scored 4 points for the series. He was replaced in the starting lineup mid-series.

Foster was the weak link in the Pacers not being world champs in 2004. (nice guy. works hard though)

Injuries were the biggest factor for those Pacer teams. Brad Miller is clearly better than Foster, no one is arguing otherwise, we are arguing the Pacers were going to lose Miller no matter what. The Pacers didn't think Foster was better, they just simply couldn't afford Miller.

Nick Collison's nickname is literally "Mr Thunder" (given to him by Kevin Durant I believe). I don't think it's outrageous to retire a jersey whose nickname is the name of your franchise.

There's more to basketball than just the box score, and players ranging from Russell Westbrook to Stevan Adams have referred to him as a mentor. It's good to see a key role player get recognition for what he did both on and off the court.

Yeah, I already covered the money myth...we will leave that for others to decide.

My point now for you to refute is that Foster's poor play in the Detroit series 04 was the biggest weakness of the Pacers in the series.(in a series they should have won)

Let's not forget the quick segue into the supposedly wide spread support of white supremacist NBA fans for TJ McConnell.

You don't lose a series because a role player struggled. You referencing how many points Foster scored shows that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Jeff Foster was never suppose to score points for us. His role was defense. Trying to blame the series on the 5th option on offense not scoring enough points is just silly.

If you expected Jeff Foster, a non offensive player, to drop 20 on Ben/Rasheed Wallace, then I don't know what to tell you man.
