Aaron Gordon - NBA All Defensive First Team

Post#1 » by Instincts » Sun Jan 13, 2019 10:39 am

AG’s defense is currently at the level that he should be a shoe in for All Defensive First Team and a strong argument could be made for DPOY.

He is effecting the game tremendously on the defensive end of the court. His continuous harnessing of Blake Griffin and taming of Kawhi Leonard are just the most recent examples of AG forcing the leagues top scoring wings into inefficient scoring games. This is winning basketball and AG deserves a lot of credit for not only having the will but also the ability to take on this challenge to effect the game on the defensive end.

He's been really good with his on-ball defense but he doesn't get enough counting stats to by 1st team and definitely not dpoy.

Come on, now, he's been very good defensively, but nowhere near DPOY level or even first team All-Defence.

You have to be on a winning team to get those accolades.

I find it ironic you only show up when AG plays/does well but is are no where to be seen when he's even playing below-average/average/to good on most nights.

He's been a good on-ball defender and sometimes a lock-down one but he doesn't do enough consistently right now to warrant an All-Defensive team nod.

Defensive first team was already a big reach as he won't even make second team, but you really had to take it to DPOY candidate huh? Gordon has been good, but let's not get ahead of ourselves... there are a lot of forwards with better defensive numbers.

gordon has been everything I hoped he would be this season.

but there is decent argument to be made he wouldn't even crack top 100 defensive players in the league.
in terms of result oriented stats he is 134th in DRPM, 227th in defensive rating.
in terms of countable stats 60th in blocks, 132nd in steals.
other advanced stats say 107th in defensive rebound percentage (vuc is 3rd btw), 236th in opposing field goal percentage.
and, to top of it all he is playing for a bottom dweller.

so, no. he is not defensive player of the year.

Ironically? Honestly I do tire of defending, but it is important to note when Gordon takes another big step forward, especially when it is related to an issue, elite defense, which has been questioned by many this summer. Yes, in my opinion Gordon deserves credit and celetration.

You are a known Gordon skeptic, is there ever a point when you just leave your bunker and say I am wrong? Is it Gordon’s first all star nomination. Honestly at this point Gordon has shown far more than enough and continues to improve into your wall of worry that you have lost credibility on the issue, so excuse me if I don’t respond to you on the subject enough, you will be wrong until the end all while missing the ride.

It's nice to hear that he is getting some recogniztion, you don't go from an unknown player to 1st/2nd team in only 1 season, baby steps, you know? Perhaps if he continues to improve he can get a 2nd team next season and then improving the awards every single season.

Have you been on this board recently? I've praised his play time and time again this season... I don't think there has been many instances where I've critiqued his play. This is the best he's played since he's been drafted and has been a major plus for this team this year.

Funny thing is again you only show up when Gordon is playing well... I show up for the bad and good and will admit when I'm wrong about a player and praise them for their play. AG has played really well and regardless of what I think he'll become as a player I will support him. If he becomes a star I'll be very happy to be proven wrong because I want him to succeed as a player and I want this team to actually be relevant.

Seeing your prior post on AG you're quick to call him an All-Star and All-Team Defender without a second thought when he's had strong games in succession. So I know if any other poster including myself doesn't have a same opinion on him you'll feel slighted/disrespected and believe they're a "hater".

Not quite there for consideration yet.... BUT.... certainly trending in the right direction... and at 23 he still has an upward trajectory! Great job AG.
