wow what a draft by atlanta. huerter and young might not be great defensively but they have that anchor badass spellman back there. Spellman also can also spread the floor. A better shooting, more athletic, better rebounder, better shot blocker than draymond green.

BLOWING UP
I was right about 3 point shooting. I expect to be right about Tacko Fall. Some coach will figure out how to use Tacko Fall. This movement towards undersized centers will sweep ng back. Back to the basket scorers will return to the NBA.

Re: Kevin Huerter
Dylan Windler reminds me a bit of a poor mans version of Huerter. Probably a lazy comp given they're both white wings, but the college stats are similar. Windler is better moving off ball, but Huerter is better dribbling in traffic and his shot looks smoother. Windler has one of the weirdest running forms you will see though, he looks like one of those prancing Arabian horses in the open court. Obviously Huerter was a much better prospect given the leftie Windler is now older and not in the NBA as yet but they both do/did a lot of things pretty well. If Windler is going to be a true SG he will have to improve his shooting numbers but he could be a rotation guy in the NBA, I know Jackson Hoy of the Stepien is a fan.

So fun to watch him get to play with the ball in his hands more.
He's very effective going left, both as a passer and scorer. Love his step back (creates a good amount of space) and hesitation dribble going that way.

I was completely right about Doncic, but i'm completely wrong about Huerter. I'm definatly glad I'm wrong about this. Five years from now, the Hawks might end up with Huerter as a top five player in the 2018 draft and Atlanta got him at 19.

Interesting that people are excited about him. I like his long-range potential as a solid but not special player, but one great game isn't going to convince me that he's going to be very good in his first contract. He does have amazing range on his jump shot and needs time to get a lot stronger.

While he hasn’t been consistent yet he’s had multiple very good games since he’s been starting. Hawks fans have been raving about him for a while. You can see as he has gotten more confidence how good he can be.

He will definitely get stronger. It’s not Brandan Ingram type body. More like Klay who is way bigger now than when he was 20.

Not gonna lie, he benefited by not having Embiid there contesting his shots on help defense or switches. But with that said, the guy has one of the purest shots in the league already.
He measured in at 195 and close to 6-8 almost a year ago during the combine. I think he and Trae will hit those weight hard and improve their body, atleast that's the hope.

no kidding! And they got the Mavs likely 2019 lottery pick? On top of their own likely top 5 2019 lottery pick they'll have the kind of back to back franchise changing drafts. Very impressive.

Re: Kevin Huerter
The one thing Huerter has come in and done that i had no clue he would be any good at is play defense. It is a very noticeable difference on the defensive effort while he is on the court compared to alot of other players. I knew his offense would play right away and he has alot more agility/ability than people thought he did coming out. But the defense as a true 2 way player has me really hyped for the kid as much if not more than young right now.

Honestly I think people just didn't look closely enough at Huerter until too late. And we need to get rid of the "sneaky athletic" label forever. I said before the draft he's not sneaky athletic. He's athletic. Period. He's also a basketball genius, from what I can tell listening to him in interviews and just watching him on the court.

Re: Kevin Huerter
Dec 27, 2018Now a starter, Hawks pleased with evaluation of Kevin Huerter
Travis Schlenk was scouting draft prospects two years ago when he made two minor notes about a freshman playing at Maryland. The Hawks general manager made the following notations about shooting guard Kevin Huerter.
“Good size.”
“Good catch-and-shoot player.”
That was it.
Schlenk saw Maryland again last season when he watched a game against Wisconsin. He was there to see a matchup of power forwards Bruno Fernandez and Ethan Happ, both of whom remain in college.
This time the tall redhead who could really shoot stood out much more.
After 18 games, Hawks coach Lloyd Pierce needed to make a change to the young, struggling team. He put Huerter in the starting lineup in place of Kent Bazemore. Huerter has been with the first team for the past 14 games. In that span, he has made 27 of 63 3-point attempts, a .429 success rate.
“At that time, we were just in a really bad spot with how we were playing,” Pierce said. “To look at how we were playing, how we were starting games specifically, to stay the same would have been an indictment on me. … I thought it do two things. I thought it put Baze in a really good spot. He had his best game the very next game. And I thought it helped Kevin. Kevin is shooting 48 percent since being inserted into the starting lineup.
The Hawks have played 33 games this season, already one more than Huerter played all of last season at Maryland. He is averaging 7.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.0 minutes.
According to one person who witnessed summer workouts, Huerter was at times the best player on the court. Those were glimpses and spurts, Pierce categorized it.
Pierce said. “His minutes have gone up. A lot of that is Taurean going out, but a lot of it is being in the starting lineup. You can see that we’ve got a special player in Kevin. We are trying to find ways to incorporate him even more. Not so much more minutes, but incorporate him in the offense more.”
Among rookies who have played at least 25 games, Huerter ranks second in 3-point percentage, eighth in assists, 10th in steals and minutes, 14th points and 19th in rebounds per game. The Hawks could see Huerter’s shooting ability from before the beginning. Pierce noted that Huerter makes all the simple plays. He can pass, make quick reads and decisions, has a feel for the game, can play off the ball and is athletic.
Schlenk would make one more notation after having Huerter in the fold for six months. When asked what has stood out the most about the young guard during his time in the NBA, he said: “His improvement on the defensive end has been dramatic.”

Have watched some gameplay and looks pretty impressive. Less athletic Zach Lavine with more defensive motor?

You could not have picked a more contrasting player lol.
Lavine is literally one of the NBA's dumbest mofos.
