Is it just that fans don't recognize defense or care about it to the extent they care about offensive production? The kid's tearing it up out there.
Yeah, he's playing a bit like Bledsoe did with the Clips....a little better steal rate but not as good defensively elsewhere looking at the numbers.
http://bkref.com/tiny/aj24qHe has great D, but so does Bridges. Steals isn't the only part of D and often comes at a price because you gamble a bit too much.
It was his best game, but Oubre had his career best, contributing everywhere, and Ayton had a solid game..I know of course that's comparing to the #1 pick, but it was solid.
I certainly recognize defense, which is why I can be down on Booker and Ayton at times, but a black hole on offense can make it tougher, because they leave a guy open daring him to shoot, doubling others and if he shoots briks, it's a bunch of wasted possessions.
"Black hole" refers to ball dominant chuckers, does it not? Dude is a 32% 3 point shooter, by the way. The way you talk about him I'd think he was Russell Westbrook from distance. I just don't see all these wasted possessions you talk about.
Say what you want, but as much as I like Okobo, we would not have won that game without Melton. Ayton's numbers would've looked terrible without all the transition gimme's attributable to Ayton.
I gave Bridges credit because his defense and his passing was great, despite his lack of offensive production. But his defense wasn't quite at Bulldog Melton levels, and 10 assists is 10 freakin' assists, with just 2 turnovers.
We wouldn't have won that game with many players. Yes, Melton is shooting ok from deep...like Booker level, but that is because defenses are leaving him open. Even if they leave him open I am not sure I think that will continue, but I hope it does. But eventually if it does, they will start guarding him and it will likely go down.
To me means, black hole is terrible efficiency..he is like 46% TS%, and 37.3% overall from the field. I mean look at his BPM or net rtg...his defense doesn't come close to making up for his offense.
http://bkref.com/tiny/aj24q He is at replacement player level.
Yes, his best game yet, and I think he is playing great being the 48th pick and am super happy and don't think we need to trade for a PG this year and have hopes we may have our PGs for the future.
I know you get overly excited about certain players after a game or two, and I think that's great to always have a positive outlook. I'm extremely high on him too, but are not going to ignore everyone else's contributions in that game.
Look at the net ratings for that game...the fourth big box score at the bottom...look at guys like Bridges, Ayton, Oubre. Melton had one of the best DRTGs behind Oubre, but some of the others had solid DRTGS and huge ortgs while overall, Melton was a fairly big net negative overall.
