Assume doncic is not a rookie
There some people saying that doncic is not a rookie because he played pro ball before getting in the NBA forgetting its the NBA rookie award and he is 19.
But let assume they are right where would you rank him among players of the former draft classes .
So jugding them how they play this season and comparing them with doncic. Forgetting they are older than him etc etc
If you are taking this very strict you will judge doncic with the draft class of 2015 because he played a handfull of games in the 15/16 season. I dont think this is fair but oke. you can choose also the later classes for every class there is a good argument to compare him with. For example 2017 draft class because that was his first season as starter.
I think it doesnt matter which class you choose he to be conservative he is top 5 in every class how they play now. Probably top 3.
So if we rank the draft class of 2015 ( the way the play this season) he will make top 5
the same with the draft class 2016 and 2017.

who's saying he's not a rookie? Is this going to be a thing now? Ben Simmons, now Doncic? lol

He's an NBA rookie, but I'm sure his experience in Europe makes the transition smoother than for players coming from college.

Re: Doncic not a rookie
I don't get the criticism of having played professional. If he did it's because he had the talent to do so. No one gave it to him.
As for your question, it doesn't quite make sense as his only competition from last year is Simmons who was 21 and got a bigger advantage than him. As of right now, Simmons and Doncic are really close to each other as rookies, with Simmons slightly ahead. But considering Doncic has been getting better and is performing better since he was given the ball, than he should be a better rookie by the end of the year.

What the hell... The reporter must feel real tough talking about an 18y old being an entitled brat, crying during games.... I mean what the?!? Even if that were true this would still be in bad taste, but to talk about this about someone he clearly has no idea about... just wow

I think lots of people bought into the idea that his play in Europe wouldn't translate and now that he's come over and immediately blown the roof off the league, they are over-correcting and saying he's not a real rookie because of his professional experience even tho we have had endless numbers of rookies come from Europe with similar or more experience.
Maybe it's just time to accept this guy is really good at basketball and that's okay?

i'm a huge fan of Doncic. every night its a different highlight from him. those step back 3s. back breaking for opponents. he's 6'7" and a bad man.

Re: Assume doncic is not a rookie
Doncic is probably a top 30ish NBA player? Not bad for his first year for a 19 year old who's still chubby. He has the smarts/moves to hide the fact athleticly he's still got a bit to go. That and the Mav's roster is a pretty bloody weird mix of players. They will have Cap room for free agents from this off-season so you are going to assume the type of player Doncic is that the Mav's are going to attract some help as well
Ignoring the fact it's his first year in the NBA so he's a rookie.

What is this BS!?
Was Dirk not a rookie, was Pau not a rookie, wasn't Rubio!?
What is all that crap now just because he's special!?
So he played against pro's. What else should he have done?
Play in the backyard with Mom rebounding so nobody's complaining?

But before the season he was being predicted as a bust as playing in Europe isn't as testing as playing in College?
Can't have it both ways...

Luka Dončić: The Future of the NBA
I've had interest in seeing this guy play in the NBA since hearing about and watching a bit of him over in Europe. I just love his style of play: unselfish, team-oriented, but when needed, he can straight ball and get buckets and has no fear of the moment. I've also always loved his little floaters, cheeky fadeaways, and the whole European style of play.
I was one of the people rooting for him to be pulled at #1, especially because I think he's exactly what Booker would've needed alongside him to finally thrive in his career and maybe put up some W's. I was surprised when he dropped to #3 AND then got traded to the Mavs at #5 for an undersized shooter in Trae Young (assuming the Hawks thought he was the second coming of Curry).
All that being said, I was not expecting this kind of start out of this kid as a rookie. I've been more impressed than most by his play... I truly feel that he is the poster child for the league going forward: a position-less, well-rounded, high-IQ player who isn't winning and beating guys the conventional way of strength and brute force. He's finesse and beats defenders by being smarter, and taking advantage of small openings and intelligent maneuvering.
From day 1 I've been super high on this guy and a lot of people I have been talking to about him think he's overrated, and he's just having a good stretch of games as a rookie. But we're now half way through the season... AND HE'S ONLY GETTING BETTER!
I thought I was blinded by being a stan of his, but today out of curiosity I looked at the numbers:
a) 20.2 PPG (43.5 FG%, 37.3 3pt%), 6.7 RPG, and 5.0 APG on 32 MPG
b) 20.9 PPG (41.7 FG%, 29.0 3pt%), 5.5 RPG, and 5.9 APG on 39.5 MPG
These are the rookie numbers for LEBRON JAMES' rookie season in comparison to Luka's rookie numbers so far...
His numbers are identical (1.2 more boards and 0.9 less steals) BUT a higher shooting percentage from the field and from 3, doing this all on a team with more scorers and 7.5 less minutes per game, and his team is just under .500 in a TOUGH Western Conference -- a Mavs team who was 24-58 last season with little changes being made this season other than adding Dončić...
I'm obviously not saying he's going to be better than LeBron, or even in the conversation for one of the GOATs, but he's already NBA ready as a rookie and I truthfully don't see a ceiling for this guy, provided he doesn't face injury issues. He's shown himself as a leader, a great teammate, a win-first player, and in the clutch? He's truly fearless, even against the best talent in the league.
RANT OVER. This guy is the future of the NBA. I see him as a top-5 player within the next 3-5 years. Convince me otherwise!

I'm moving this to the rookie thread. Unless it's a thread about a monster performance by Luka, I'd rather keep all Luka talk in that thread.
