If we break down that trade into parts...
Part 1
trading Portis for the Wizards 2019 1st round pick
Part 2
Trading Jabari and Felicio for Wall.
Felicio has two seasons left beyond this one at 8M per.
After this season, Wall has 38M, 41M, 44M, 47M .... before the 15% trade kicker.
Even if we justify it a bit by saying shedding Felicios salary eases the blow, that only lasts 2 seasons. So after factoring in 15% kicker and Felicios soft blow...
Net Cap impact is 36M, 39M, 50M, 54M.
THAT. IS. CRAZY.
I would have much rather spent that kind of money on Jimny Butler (and I remind everyone we didnt have to give him the whole supermax, just a little above it to beat everyone, but that ship has sailed).
The other aspect of this trade is that the Wizards 1st rounder helps ease the cap budget by letting us keep cheap talent on a rookie contract. Maybe like 8M per season we would have spent on a vet.
I am sorry but we need more to make that worth it. And thats before we are talking about locker room fit.
We would need at least TWO 1st rounders, shed Felicio, and Wall to make anyone in the NBA give it consideration.
I will say this. IF we land Barrett or Zion, we strike out in free agency, if the Wizards offer two FRPs (NOT swaps but actual FRPs), I would think about it.
TURN ON feasible DREAM GOGGLES:
BUT wouldnt you rather sign Rose for whatever he is worth on the FA market, roll out the ball and go? That option is so much better.
you might even be able to sell Anthony Davis on a Chicago lineup with Rose and a cheap Jabari.
I think Lauri, Lavine, Dunn, Felicio, 2020 first rounder and future 1st round swap can get AD here, provided he signs extension. Hell if you can send Lavine and Felicio away, we can grab AD, a max player and still have room for Rose/Jabari/vet signing
Starters:
AD (29M)
Jabari (5M?)
Valentine (3M)
Butler (32M)
Rose (20M)
Bench:
Carter (5M)
2019 1st round pick, one of the Dukies(5M)
Hutch (2M)
Blakeney
Teodesic (2M)
End of Bench, 2nd rounders and 2 way:
Arci
2019 memphis 2nd rounder
A LOT of playmaking and lineup flexibility. Can go all defense or run the floor. Almost everyone shoots well enough to keep defense honest.
I mean try to imagine scoring on Carter, AD, Zion or Hutch, Butler, Rose
Dead Cap:
Asik (3M)
Shed:
Lavine (20M)
Felicio (8M)
Dunn (5M)
Portis (4M)
