Kenneth Faried Agrees To Buyout With Nets, Will Join Rockets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jan 19, 2019 5:35 am

Kenneth Faried has agreed to a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets.

The 29-year-old Faried is expected to join the Rockets once he clears waivers on Monday.

The Rockets have until then to make room for Faried's roster spot. With Clint Capela's injury, Faried will step into the lineup immediately and play significant minutes.

Manimal still got some gas in the tank. At best, the Rockets will be able to stay fast. At worst, teams don't respect his trey and sag off him, clogging the middle

Faried is about to go off in that system. Averages of 18 and 12 easily.

Good pickup by the Rockets. As long as he still has some hops this should be a great fit to replace Clint in the lineup. My guess is they finally let Melo go free from being on house arrest, but they may still try to hold out for a 2nd round pick for him from someone. I just don't see them getting anything for Melo unless he becomes a salary cap filler in a bigger deal.

Knowing the history of how they treat players in houston ...
Any players trusting the rockets organisation at this point is at their own risks!

I don't think anyone really wants or needs Melo, much less give up anything for him. Rockets will buy him out/waive him most likely.

He can be the smallball center they need to back up Capela for when the Warriors go small in the playoffs.

I generally like Kenny Atkinson as a Coach, and its hard to complain after witnessing the last two miracle wins;

However, Kenny gets a F in my book for how he treats Bigs who he doesn't like;
This season the Nets do have Ed Davis and recently Kurucs has proven to be a surprise, and will be a true high energy starting PF;
However, many Nets fans even wanted Faried to be their starting PF, ahead of RHJ; I would have rated Faried behind RHJ, but certainly ahead of Jared Dudley and Graham, who are coaches favorites;

To my knowledge, Faried was never allowed to play a single minute at PF, despite PF being the weakest Nets position before the rise of Kurucs; He was only garbage time Center or 3 string Center when Atkinson wasn't going Super-Small-Ball with Rondae at Center;

Faried has looked great when he has played, dominating the boards, doing his best to advance hs mid-range shot, and hustling on defense;
Manimal shouldn't take it personal, because Atkinson treated the 22 year old Okafor even worse last season;
Okafor wasn't even allowed to play in garbage time last season; He was only allowed to play vs. his old Sixers team during the last 2 months last season; Yet Okafor was dominant on offense, something Nets needed; Last season Nets sucked at the Center position;

Houston fans should expect Faried to dominate the boards and help lead to more wins;
I was hoping the Sixers would have picked up Manimal, but recently Jonah Bolden has come into his own;
However, I hope he isn't available to play against the Sixers on Monday;

Nets fans will have a chance to prove how wrong Kenny Atkinson has been, but it won't make any difference;
It looks like the Nets will make the playoffs once Caris LeVert returns;

I'm not a Nets fan and I dont watch too many games of them.
But Atkinson might want some stuff that doesnt show on box score.

You say Faried was good on boards. But was he good at setting screens? Closing out to players, learning and playing the sets drawn.
Did he give good effort on training? What was his behavior in locker room?

There could be many reasons for coach not playing him.
At the end of the day Atkinson's team performs much more than anybody would expect. Without following the coach's order all the time you cant be that good. On both sides of the court it is certainly a coach team.
It not like you put WB or Harden on offense to do whatever they want to do.

Okafor-Faried's track record is also not good. Faried's attitude was probably problematic in Denver to begin with.
And you cant play a guy who can shoot 3s at PF if you dont have a good 3pt shooter C.

Atkinson probably didnt want to give garbage time minutes for Okafor and Faried since he didnt want them to stat pad. He probably wanted to give those minutes to hard working guys.

How Faried plays with Rockets will prove your conjecture wrong;
Atkinson didn't play them, because he wanted to send them a message that he wanted them gone ASAP;
I believe that GM Sean Marks disagreed in both cases, or else he wouldn't make the trades;

Atkinson is about the most stubborn coach in the NBA. He won't make any modification to suit the players on his roster;

Playing 2 traditional bigs is against Atkinson’s Gameplan. As good as Ed Davis has been off the bench this season, Atkinson would never play him along side Allen unless they needed a rebound off of a missed freethrow. With Allen playing well and Davis playing well there was no minutes for Faried. Just like last year there were no mins for Oakafor.

We dont have much evidence on that.
He looked a like a good coach so far overall.

Great pickup by the rockets

Was really hoping for the last couple months that the lakers would snag him as their small ball center.

Let’s see if faried can make himself get a new contract.

He was once an Olympian and really good.

Dantonie is going to make him a lot of money I suspect
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

No idea how much Faried has left in the tank. He just fell off the radar for a year or two. But he's got to be a better gamble than Carmelo.

One of my favorite players in the nba since he’s been there. He’s going to show out, I know it.

Atkinson can be a good coach overall, but he is also stubborn, and has favorites;
He also has had 2 players who he obviously never wanted Sean Marks to put on the team - Okafor and now Manimal;

He certainly didn't want Okafor from day 1, as he made excuses for benching him for over 1 month to start, despite the Nets sucking at the Center position last season;

The same went for Faried; He was never allowed to play PF, even after injuries to others; If he was bad in the locker room, maybe it was because he was not playing, despite being outstanding at rebounding and OK at other areas;

But if Faried was allowed to play more, it would have been obvious that he was pretty good (not padding stats) at both rebounding and scoring in the paint and hustling on defense - then Atkinson would have been stuck with him for rest of season;
As it stands, Faried got Kenny's message and he asked for a buyout; Good for Faried;

Faried's performance with Houston, will decide who is correct;
Unlike with Okafor, who was only good with low post moves and scoring in the paint, Faried is a better all around player;
However with Okafor having been only 22 last season, at least he had upside and again the Nets sucked at the Center position;

Really? I specifically recall Okaor going on about how much he liked being on the Nets and how great it was to finally "work with real NBA coaches and staff" or something like that. I think in Ok's case he just too slow and a liability. As for Faried... I suspect he'll thrive in a high-octane high energy offense like Dantoni got
