I don't know man GMs scout and get paid loads and still get it wrong - My 8 hours of YT/Wikipedia would have told me ( and many other fans) that Durant was easily the number one pick for example.

Oden's body just completely broke down on him. Nobody could have foreseen that. The guy would have very likely been a dominant center if he was healthy.

Of course, with the benefit of hindsight in the way the game has changed, Durant would very likely have still been the far more valuable pick at this stage in their careers.

Masai or any GM for that matter have been wrong lots.

I'd say this is closer to Wright over Portis and taking a player nobody was expected at a much later pick (Powell and Siakam). Frankly, I think this was a great draft for Masai. I didn't see Siakam coming, but I don't have any way to scout every pick, and he's clearly done his homework. At first glance, I really like Siakam. If he's another Faried-ish player in a year or two, the Raptors will be laughing.

I think because this type of sentiment implies a level of nepotism and dismisses probably the countless hour of effort behind this decision.

Wow we got a steal in this draft. Just because, someone doesn't play for amazing division doesn't mean they're a bust right away. Check his draft express draft-workout and you will be impressed by his:
-Amazing Strides down the court
-Finish around the rim
-Can shoot the mid range jumper at a high rate
-Very well spoken for someone being from cameroon.
-Seems very lanky and atheltic.

Watch boys we won't miss Biz that much, but we do have two options for biz in Poeltl and Paskal.

I think it's moreso that Masai has identified that there's more talent in Africa than most others have thought, and because he has additional connections when it comes to those players, he's better able to recognize who's a stud when others might not know. It's a type of bias, but a calculated one. A lot of draft steals tend to be foreign players, because of the less amount of scouting available. But the less scouting doesn't apply to us as much when it comes to African players.

Talking in absolutes about young prospects never ages well. This isn't nearly as bad as the 2007/2008 thread that had a serious discussion going about Durant being a taller Jamal Crawford because he wasn't shooting super efficiently and his defense sucked at the age of 19.

That was always kind of stupid though. Historically, rookies who are first options on an NBA team shoot really poorly. Just compare Durant's rookie season stats to LeBron's. They're not that different.
