I believe that Ted and Ernie have contempt for the "fan", Ted does not want to give-in to that guy yelling Fire Ernie

Its fascinating video. Looks like Ted is the only person who reacts, like its being communicated at a frequency only he can hear.
And he needs to dress better, he looks like a homeless guy who was given a sports jacket.

Ernie Grunfeld probably didn't deserve to get fired with the Knicks. Karma probably rewarded him with a job where he cannot get fired from. Unfortunately, the rest of Washington fans have to suffer.

I still can't believe they had Steph Curry in the mother effing building, and didn't draft him. I will never get over that.
That has to be one of the all-time blunders in NBA history. Has to be.

I mean, he wasn't exactly a great GM for the Knicks. Just not as bad as he's been afterwards. He inherited a 60 win team centered around Ewing with Riley as head coach. He inherited a ready-made contender. To his credit, he didn't mess it up until Riley left in '95. After that, he hired Don Nelson and blamed Nelson for changing the team's style from the grit and grind team they had previously been so he fired him and watched JVG do worse than Nelson. JVG rebounded back to 57 wins the following season but after that basically the team was a version of the Wizards, generally finishing above .500 but never more than 50 wins for a team with a future HOFer in his prime and then JVG got all confrontational with Ernie and really neither of them was very good. I'm fairly confident giving most of the credit for being the architect of that Knicks team to Riley, not Ernie, but to each their own. Coaches back then had quite a bit more say in player/personnel moves and it showed. Now, smart GMs have come in and taken a lot of that power away from coaches but before, you'd see guys like Nelson, Adelman, Riley, etc. go from team to team and basically always win wherever they went
And being fired from the Knicks is probably a mercy so long as you land on your feet. Sarver is the only owner out there who is competing with Dolan for worst owner in the NBA. Sterling would have made it a big 3 had he not been forced to sell.
Bucket! Bucket!

That being said, that Knicks team was largely a 60 win team because of Ewing and declined afterwards. In the Knicks finals run in 1999, they did it without Ewing.
Random note (not EG related), I don't think Jeff Van Gundy won another playoff series for the rest of his career.

Re: Discuss Ernie Grunfeld's GM skills here (Part 2)
So I've been digging into vedic astrology a bit and found some interesting things.
One in particular states their 12 signs in astrolgoy and there specific are enemy signs where two signs do not work together well at all.
The Wizards were founded in 1955, a goat year.
Ernie Grunfeld was born in 1961, an ox year.
The ox and goat are enemy signs meaning Ernie & the Wizards are destined for failure together.
But I guess didnt vedic astrology to tell me that, lol.

We also had Kwahi in for a workout too, but Ernie was already locked-in on Vesely. Someone on the scouting team has been bringing in some good prospects, but Ernie makes the call.

No, Ernie's older than 57. He was born before 1961, the year I was born.Dat2U wrote:So I've been digging into vedic astrology a bit and found some interesting things.

I knew Albert King back in the day. He's a couple years older than I am. He graduated in 1977. I think Ernie is the same age as Bernard King. Three years older than Albert. Ernie was born in 1956 give or take one year.

I switched it by accident. I meant to say Ernie was born in 55 in the Wizards were founded in 61.

I have been yoked to the Wizards since about 1975. Practically all my life, if you think about it.
It's meaningful to me that I am the same age as the franchise.

Add to that - not will to trade Beal for Harden.

No Steph Curry. No Kawhi Leonard. No James Harden. And just to double down he whiffed on KD after locking Scott Brooks into an unnecessary lucrative deal.dckingsfan wrote:TGW wrote:I still can't believe they had Steph Curry in the mother effing building, and didn't draft him. Do not forget EG renegotiated with injured Arenas prior to awarding Gilbert a long term deal. Not that he learned a damn thing--Ernie also didn't hesitate to preemptively award Wall a super max deal.
I will never be a GM, but if I were I wouldn't give a speedy PG with knee pain and age 30 nearing a super max deal. It's not practical or wise.

I would trade John Wall straight up for rights to Ja Morant, if it were possible. Barring any major concerns that kid is a beast.
Said the same before Kyrie draft.

I know this thread is about EG but I cannot help but recall how few people here liked anything about Boogie Cousins.
Suddenly, he's an asset to the Warriors.
(PS -- He is a huge re-rupture risk. He's not going to be nearly the same player, and I fear the worst. Career will be shortened by complications of the same injury)

So you're suggesting that ANYONE in their right mind would trade a top 5 pick for Wall?

Could have drafted Kawhi, instead drafted the Bouncing Czech
Steph, the Beard, Kawhi? How can you hang on to all three on max contracts. How will there be enough usage to go around? How will you manage those egos. First world problems.
