Dodgers, Pirates Having \'Ongoing\' Talks About Starling Marte

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jan 22, 2019 1:11 pm

The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking for some right-handed hitting and have had \"ongoing and active discussions\" with the Pittsburgh Pirates about Starling Marte, according to a report.

Marte is under contract through 2021.

Even after trading Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp to the Cincinnati Reds, the Dodgers have a surplus of outfielders.

Marte carries a base salary of $10 million this coming season.

It's pretty clear to me that the Dodgers are going for Bryce Harper. They have made zero moves since trading away outfielders and creating more cap space. I keep seeing headlines how little the Dodgers are doing or why they aren't making any moves right now?

I'm starting to think that their move right now is to NOT make moves as they have their sole focus on acquiring Harper. That can't happen overnight, so that's why the Dodgers quickly made that trade with CIN, to give them that much more time to find a way to create space for Harper and to convince him that being a Dodger is in his best interest.
