Not even surprised when he blamed his GM failures solely on cap situations. It’s not like he was trading away first rounders like candy and mismanaging cheap contracts

It is Doc's pass the buck type comments that I do not like much more than a mistake as GM.

Every GM in the NBA has made player mistakes.

It would have been much better and more stand up for Doc to just say I regret that one and move on.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point. :D

Pop Goes the Weasel

If Doc apologized or expressed regret for each of his past mistakes, he would practically admit that he was a nincompoop as PoBO given the volume of his incompetence. Sure, he's made the general statement that he's not perfect and has made mistakes but that's a meaningless soundbite if he doesn't own up to his specific failures.

He's shown himself to be a stubbornly prideful and egotistical man, which Mike Fratello recently confirmed in part, and is why he left Boston with Danny Ainge in control and ventured over to the Clippers demanding the title of President of Basketball Operations. He's explored opportunities with other organizations--including the Bucks before they hired Budenholzer--after he self-destructed Lob City and I get the sense that he's still trying to paint himself as some front-office intellect in order to possibly fool another owner down the road as unlikely as that possibility is nowadays.

Now you hear him expressing principles and ideas that we all longed for him to practice when he had GM powers while trying to rationalize his previous actions. He's just parroting what the current front office is telling him and trying to spin it in his favor. All of a sudden, Doc wants to be careful in acquiring long-term deals and justifies his previous aggressive incompetence by saying it made more sense to do so when you're one or two pieces away. That shortsighted approach only sabotaged and derailed a Lob City roster he was handed.

His double-speak will say that Blake Griffin's presence enticed him to take the Clippers job while repeating his tired excuse of having to work with the salary-cap constraints of a stacked roster only in a different and more subtle manner now. The next thing you know, he'll take credit for Shai and Rome's development despite doing more to hinder than develop them.

Lest we forget, another one of his outstanding blunders was failing to move on from Jamal Crawford when he had the opportunity. There were reports that he didn't want to re-sign Jamal only to cave when other players petitioned on his behalf. Not only did he bring him back, which wasn't necessarily a bad thing despite the backcourt glut at the time, Doc still couldn't stop himself from consistently overplaying Crawford and diminishing his effectiveness to the point where he was a net negative player.

Doc is such a spineless weasel.
