There is no game. I'm asking if we realistically think we can resign Lamb and keep him while also finding a true second scoring option. I don't see how that happens.

It wouldn’t be any less realistic than not re-signing him but it’s unlikely we re-sign him without Kupchak making a deal that’ll clear enough space for it to be possible. With that said it’s difficult for me to even speak on what and what isn’t realistic without knowing said move and what assets remain.
Let’s not forget that we acquired Lamb with Ridnour and a 2nd rounder.
Hell the Bucks got Khris Middleton as fill-in fodder of a Brandon Jennings-Brandon Knight swap.
Imagine if we would’ve traded up to draft Kuzma like the Lakers did. Remember I was a big advocate of us taking Kuzma in the 2017 draft because I saw something in him.
There’s always talent to be found or developed that isn’t obvious to the superficial eye. It’s not all about going after big names with bloated contracts all the time in order to get a legit go-to scorer.

We can probably manage with Lamb as a "2nd scorer" if we also had someone else that could consistently score 15+.
Kind of Kemba + a platoon of "above average" scorers.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
I almost feel like we as a fan base are just approaching this offseason with blind optimism. Like we are just praying it works itself out (reminds me of my history with student loans haha).
We seem scared to throw out realistic numbers, it’s always “sign Kemba at a discount” or “get Lamb back cheap”. We need to start to look at things for what they are, bleak. Is Lamb worth a multi-year deal?
If we pay Kemba 30+ mil are you okay giving Lamb 12-16 mil? That’s a lot on your backcourt. I would just assume Trade Lamb now and try and develop Monk as well as find a cheap contract for another guard for around 5 mil examples: (Alec Burks, Reggie Bullock, Tyreke Evans, KCP, Temple, Ellington, Hezonja, T-Ross, Shumpert, Danny Green,etc.). I don’t think Lamb is a huge upgrade over a lot of these guys on the court but will cost a lot more than most.
Lamb has earned a deal better than his 3/21 we gave him a few years back. No way we can get him for less than 10 mil annually especially with so many teams having cap space this summer. Someone is bound to give him a big offer on a 1 year place holder type of deal.
Seems like only way to bring him back would be a 3-4 year deal. And like Yosemite has been saying is there any way to improve the team if we have Lamb signed at 10 plus mil over next 3 years?

Oh no I think you might be misconstruing something here. I believe the consensus is that we’ll lose Lamb in the offseason but it’s a double entendre to keeping him through this season. #1 reason being that he’s automatically $7 million off the books and #2 reason is that helps our playoff chances which in return helps the chances of convincing Kemba to stay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets closer to 20 a year than 10 a year. That’s being realistic. He’s a sg entering his prime who has all the physical intangibles and who while not great can shoot the three. That being said, I’m under the belief right now of Kemba wants him to stay he stays. I do wonder if Jordan would ever pay the luxury tax. Have we ever paid the luxury tax before?

7 million isn’t going to do much for us this offseason, I would rather use him to help dump a bad contract now. That has more value to me then trying to get the 6th seed vs the 8th.
Something like sending him to Detroit as part of Drummond package or to Memphis for Gasol. Both of those teams are hurting for solid NBA wings and having a few months to work with Lamb and bird rights has value.

I don't think Lamb will get 20 mil. The market is more reasonable now than its been the last few years. I don't see him getting over 15. I think he'll get something similar to Spencer Dinwiddie, maybe a tad more because he plays a position with a shallower talent pool.

$7 extra million annually will go a long way in convincing Kemba to return.
We gain no leverage or advantage in trading Lamb away in the package for Drummond.

Re: Rustler - The Jeremy Lamb Thread
We aren't going to sign a player better than Lamb for whatever money we end up being able to afford to pay him, so if we can find a way to clear enough space we should resign him. There is a decent chance we can get Lamb on a fair or possibly team friendly deal to resign with Kemba, whereas any FA player of his caliber will likely require an overpay to get to come to Charlotte.
Lamb at 10-12 million per year is better value than the contracts of pretty much everyone on the team that isn't Kemba, or still on their rookie deal. That might be true even at 15/year.

Nah lol we paid guys like Cody, Marv, and MKG who are lesser players $14M that deserve about half of that around $7M based on their production and market value. No other team was willing to pay them that. I disagreed with each of those contracts before it happened.
Lamb will be able to command $12-14M on the free agent market and rightfully so.

there are too many hardworking d league and second round guys to give a shot to
giving lamb 10 mil like he's gonna actually get better is just... what's the upside? he's not gonna be the SG answer we want

I wish it was that easy to find a hardworking G League player or 2nd rounder that can average 15 points on decent efficiency lol. Every team in the league would do it.

its easier to whiff on that and be wrong after a year than it is trying to get rid of a contract that was decided on market value at the time

Lamb is worth $10-12M even if he’s coming off the bench as a 6th man. He’s averaged double figures with a 15+ PER the last 3 years or so.
I would recommend that for us because we have too many players that are overpaid doing role player things hogging up cap space.
In a logical world we never would’ve signed Cody, MKG, or Marv more than $8-10M yearly deals and all of this would make sense.

15 is basically "acceptable nba player". no one is gonna say that lamb is better than gary harris and jamal murray either. the rating is just flimsy
and louis williams make like 8 a year. its better imo to take risks on bargains than it is to pay for flat out mediocrity. i can't even think of a huge jeremy lamb game tbh. he's also just not good for kemba because its been years and he STILL can't attack after Kemba's been blitzed high. at least he's no evan turner but geez... the risk on it as well as what it locks us into? i wouldn't lose sleep over a jeremy lamb

Jamal Murray and Gary Harris are average players themselves that can chuck into good games occasionally. Both of them could get injured today and it wouldn’t hurt the Nuggets bottom line especially with Will Barton finally returning.
Lamb isn’t a star player but he’s an above average player on a team that lacks them outside of Kemba. If Lamb get injured for the season today our team will miss his presence. Very under appreciated on this board if you ask me.
It’s not as simple as just asking Dwayne Bacon or any top G League SG prospect to come in on a 10-day contract to duplicate his production of consistency.
