NBA denies league-leading 3-point shooter invite to 3-point contest

Post#1 » by CIN-C-STAR » Mon Jan 28, 2019 6:40 am

Davis Bertans is shooting 48 percent from 3.
Weirdest part of him not being invited to the 3-point contest is he wanted to go, but the league reportedly told him he wasn't shooting enough 3s. Not only does he qualify for the leader board, but he shoots more than 4 a game.
For comparison, Seth Curry, invited, isn't even averaging 3 attempts per game.
I don't know if Bertans would win or not but dude has a pure stroke, and it would have been a cool story as he only has 4 1/2 digits on his shooting hand.

Yeah this isn't right at all.

The worst part is that you can, for all intents and purposes, have as many guys participate as you want. Have a dozen players in it. Three rounds: 12-4-2 or something similar. Extend All-Star Saturday Night by half an hour and make more money.

Worth mentioning that the Spurs also have the highest team 3-point percentage in the league, too.
Would not only make sense for him to be invited, but for the team to have a representative.
Not a huge deal but does seem like an obvious oversight for the league. But then again, as some have suggested, maybe it's just all about ratings from casual fans (do casual NBA fans really watch All-Star weekend though?)

I mean from a common fan's point of view, I'm sure a ton of people have no idea who Bertans is. Having his name in there would be very underwhelming.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Looks like he's just not cool looking enough to be accepted to the cool guys club  The reasoning here seems kind of obvious.

He should be there. Media manipulation cheapens the event. I can understand making certain exceptions to make things more interesting but not at the expense of excluding those with the most merit.

Common fans do not know more than what Stephen A or Skip throws out in their shows.

He gotta understand white people don't have the spotlight in America anymore. We are living in the new era.

Lame as hell. Bertans got screwed and the worst part was the nba blatantly lied about the reason. It would have been more acceptable if they flat out said that he wasn’t marketable enough.
