I don't know why more players don't do this. He should be credited an assist on this.

Because it's a self-pass and should be a turnover. Technically, that's a "shot." And you can't rebound/touch your own miss if it doesn't touch the rim.

Maybe I'm not understanding you, but in the NBA you can certainly pass to yourself off the backboard.

Hmm...I guess you can now, so long as it's not considered a shot.

But it used to be illegal.

Call me an old man but Sabonis is still my GOAT, hands down. The passes I saw him make, in iso-heavy basketball, with bad knees so he moved at glacial speeds, were amazing. And they were almost always inch-perfect and seldom turnovers. Sabonis would average like 15 APG in today's league, off dribble hand-offs alone probably. Guys would sag way off of him to pick-off post-entry passes, knowing he was a great passer and slow as dirt, and he'd still thread passes past their fingertips.

He was the best passer for one simple reason: He passed through Communism.

80s Sabonis didn't exist in the NBA, so it's too hard to judge. Statistically Wilt has the best case, but he was just passing out of the post. Jokic is running sophisticated stuff out on the perimeter and throwing full court TDs in transition. The only modern seasons that even resemble what he's doing are 13/14 Noah and Boogie last year, but it's not the same. Jokic might be the sixth most valuable offensive player in the league right now after Lebron, Steph, Harden, KD and Giannis. If he ups his minutes into the 33-34 range he's right with those guys.

Edit: Dame and Kyrie are right there too

Sabonis had 964 total career assists in 7 seasons

Jokic has 782 in 2 1/2 seasons.

Jokic > Sabonis and its not even close

I’m sure I’m not the first or the last to tell you counting assist totals is a terrible way to grade passers. I’m not even sure if the horns offense was around when Sabonis was in the NBA and very clearly post prime touching the ball much less than Jokic. Letting bigmen fascilitate was unheard of outside of Walton until like the 2000s.

Two days after it happened Jokic was still being asked about his one-handed full-court outlet pass to Jamal Murray against the Clippers. He has watched the replay, but he’s still not quite sure how the play happened so seamlessly.

“Is it some connection? I just knew he’s gonna be. … I don’t know how,” Jokic said. “I cannot explain it. In my mind, he was there. When I look it up, he was there, so I just threw the ball.”

Was just coming here to post that. I had to watch it three times just to figure out wtf I just saw. Mind boggling how he is able to even see something like that, let alone execute the pass.

Did he uses his left palm to palm the ball across 2 defenders to Millsap?

Just horrible defensive read from Pau. You coulda see that pass coming a mile away.

He’s a good passer but overall I’d say he’s overrated. There are at least 4 better centers.

If there are AT LEAST 4, then let's hear the 4 you're thinking of. Hell, name even one.

One of the 4 isn't the guy Jokic just hung 28/21/6/2 on I'm sure. So interested in hearing the 4.

Davis
Embiid
Gobert
Porzingis (when healthy)

Edit: Boogie (when healthy)

That’s 5. You could argue Gobert and Porzingis. You couldn’t argue the other 3.

Gobert is not in Jokic tier buddy and he never will be.

Fine. There are 4 other names there.
