I think you can vote every day if you like.

Tobias + Gallo = Tobiallo

Post#5 » by Ranma » Fri Jan 4, 2019 3:07 am

Apparently, the nickname "Tobiallo" is making the rounds on social media. They're clearly our best players this season, so hopefully this new nickname helps significantly improve their chances in the All-Star voting.

Mirjam Swanson, Orange County Register (1/3/19)
As of Thursday morning, they’d spent the ninth-most time together of any tandem, sharing the floor for 1,019 minutes, according to NBA.com/stats.

Their combined shooting percentage – 47.4 percent – when they’re on the court together is better than all but three pairs who have played at least 1,000 minutes together. (The others: Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, 49.6 percent; Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, 48.8 percent; and LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan, 48.4 percent.)

Harris and Gallinari – nicknamed “Tobiallo” by fan podcast Locked on Clippers – also are the only duo among that 11-tandem group shooting better than 40 percent from 3-point range when they’re both in the game, with a combined percentage of 41.4 percent.

And they’ve found their way to the free-throw line (684 times) most often, where they’ve collectively shot better (84.4 percent) than any of the league’s other most prolific duos.

Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari Create Tough Matchup for Clippers’ Opponents

Andrew Greif, Los Angeles Times (1/3/19)
Both Gallinari and Harris have expressed interest in taking part in the three-point competition during All-Star weekend. Gallinari ranks fifth in the league by shooting a career-best 46% on threes even if he didn’t know it until a reporter recently informed him. He’s joined Golden State’s Stephen Curry as the only players [sic] this season averaging 19 or more points while shooting at least 45% on three-pointers.

“They run a lot of plays for us and they always find us in the right spots,” Gallinari said. “Our bigs are screening for us a lot so they make our life easier, but it’s tough to guard me and Tobias because one of us either has a small guy on us or big guy.”

Said Rivers: “I think you can always get better. I think they’re playing well, but they can always get better.”

But Gallinari returned to the U.S. from his native Italy weeks earlier than usual in the offseason in part to learn how he could better pair with Harris. By October, two weeks before the regular season began, Gallinari raved that “the chemistry has been great. We love to play with each other.”

The Knicks used to have a well player who could not wait to get his hands on the stat sheet in the locker room despite losing games. I find it admirable that Gallo does not seem to be to in to his own stats.

Lowe & Arnovitz Discuss All-Star Team Selections

Post#7 » by Ranma » Wed Jan 16, 2019 9:50 pm

Kevin Arnovitz, former prominent writer for ClipperBlog.com, and Zach Lowe, headline ESPN personality, both make their respective picks for the All-Star team and acknowledge that Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari are very close to each other in terms of production. Arnovitz chose Tobias despite pointing out that the advanced stats have Gallo significantly higher. He goes on to say that the Clippers organization loves their current players.

Lowe then mentions that he thinks the team probably loves both Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell even more so than either Tobias or Gallo since Lou and Trezz provide something that can't be replicated anywhere else on the team while Gallo and Tobias serve the same role albeit at a relatively high level. Lowe doesn't pick any Clipper for his preferred All-Star selections.

That's like valuing a relief pitcher over your two 15-game winning starters. Even if Lou IS Mariano Rivera.

BTW, the most Rivera ever made was $15M. Kinda like Lou's situation.

I do not think guys like Draymond or Jimmy Butler should make it. Do some arenas stuff the ballot box? Some of the leading vote guys are questionable at best.
I do not get the Butler hype. He is good but not great. If he is done with Philly that will be 3 teams in under 3 years.
I think Tobias will get in. The lack of prime time national TV games may hurt the Clippers this season.

I just read 7 NBA players voted for Melo to start the all star game.

All Star voting gets goofier.

Just saw the complete voting. Not surprisingly Tobias and Gallo were kind of close.

Tobias was ranked 10th by players with 16 votes and 19th by fans with 219,184 votes
Gallo was ranked 18th by players with 11 votes and 17th by fans with 259,799 votes
Tobias had a weight score of 14
Gallo had a weighted score of 15

Crazy that Draymond and Boogie were ahead of either guy. Not sold on Kusma being ahead of them either.

Is Harris An All-Star, Or A Silver Star?

Post#19 » by Wammy Giveaway » Thu Jan 31, 2019 7:46 am

Read on Twitter

Robert Flom from Clips Nation goes into detail the concerns of Tobias Harris making the All-Star Game. With a cavalcade of elite players and the bloodbath of the western conference featuring said elite players, Harris will be the odd man out. His All-Star Reserves are:

Damian Lillard (G)
Jrue Holiday (G)
Russell Westbrook (G - Wildcard)
Anthony Davis (F)
Nikola Jokic (F)
Karl Anthony-Towns (F)
Rudy Gobert (F - Wildcard)

Now my reason for Harris missing out is more stats-based:

Read on Twitter

You might have heard me talk about this already, but the data above reflects to as of January 27. Nothing has changed from that front; teams have a winning record when Harris scores 30 PTS+, but is so focused on helping his teammates, he has a losing record when doesn't net an assist tally at all. Things like this have me thinking he isn't All-Star worthy, but on a roster that lacks an All-Star at all and are desperate for a representative in the name of relevancy and to lure a superstar free agent this upcoming off-season, the reasons behind marketing Harris become crucial. I would have preferred that Lou Williams or Montrezl Harrell - both bench players and candidates to Sixth Man Of The Year award - be the guys to make it over Harris. Williams is a walking winning record when he plays and is on fire for the Clippers, but his missed games could cost him that honor. With the height of a small forward, Harrell is the Clipper's best productive big providing much needed energy whose numbers have trended upward since donning America's colors, but there is a history of energy bench players not getting in the All-Star Game; the NBA's preference being reserved for the starters.

It's not necessary whether the Clippers deserve to be represented in the All-Star Game. The question they should really ask is, do they need it. There are pros and cons to being snubbed, especially for a team with playoff aspirations that is teetering towards the lottery.

If Clipps want to re-sign Tobias it might be better if he does not make it. I think he has put up all star level stats but so have others.
