Kyrie has in the past praised KP. He would have wanted to have played with him.

"Every team was under consideration," Irving said. "But obviously, New York held a special place for me, just being from Jersey, and obviously envisioning myself as a free agent and ultimately taking a meeting and playing for (David Fizdale) and the great young core they had here, and thinking about playing with (Kristaps Porzingis), that was a big thing before I made my decision to sign back -- to plan on re-signing back, I don't want to get in trouble, plan on re-signing back with Boston. But yeah, of course. New York was a strong consideration."

https://www.sny.tv/knicks/news/kyrie-irving-said-he-told-kristaps-porzingis-he-would-love-to-play-with-him/266680986
Celtics guard Kyrie Irving told Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis earlier this season that he "would love to play" with a player like him, he said during NBA All-Star weekend.

Irving also said he sent "well wishes" to the Knicks' star after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

"You just hope that mentally he's able to jump over those hurdles," Irving said, according to Newsday. "It's tough coming back and knowing the process and kind of having that window that you're trying to hit in terms of how long you have to wait in order to do certain things. But I know he's always in the gym; he's always a hard worker. So I wish Porzingis nothing but the best . . . He's so versatile."

So, it really is AD or bust.

More like Kyrie and Durant teaming up in the summer in New York.

Well, yeah, that's what I mean. If we don't get AD, Kyrie gon leave.

NY is definitely going to make a really hard push for Kyrie/KD duo. Im sure if they get the #1 pick, they will probably trade it for AD and make the push to get all 3 guys. Definitely a very enticing offer, even if its just KD and Kyrie, plus a top 5 pick (not Zion).

With that said, I still think Ainge gets Kyrie to stay. Boston is still a dream situation. One of the most historic franchises, a known legit contending team. It is without a doubt his team as well.

They already have KD. Want to add Kyrie and AD too.

They don't have to trade the pick. They will have 2 max slots open.

Oh I know. Im saying trade that pick to land AD. If they can get KD and Kyrie in free agency. If Im them, Im flipping Zion for AD. Again I think that is their best case scenario and the one their shooting for.

Kanter, Knox, Robinson & pick for AD?

Problem is AD, DeAndre, Matthews, DSJ might ruin the pick a little.

Why is this even relevant? The Knicks have been irrelevant for decades, and probably will continue to be. And don't give me this, "oh, guys want to play in a big market or it's NY crap." If that were the case, they would have won something since the freaking 1970s. Same with the LA ****. It's more just the crap ass media creating stuff for the buzz.

This seems like a ridiculously stupid move. Even for them.

Only possible way is if they land that #1 pick, if they do, I think they become favorites to land AD. NY needs to hope they get the #1 pick and land Zion. If that doesnt happen, they have no shot at landing AD.

GB can't decide if Kyrie is overrated or if he's a huge loss jumping ship to the Knicks.

They just made their team significantly better in the short term, hurting their chances at Zion. Knicks just did us a massive solid here

They either flip Jordan and Matthews for other expirings or they come down with injuries or are sent home.

Not necessarily. Wesley Mathews has not been good this year, DSJ is still super raw and they can easily just buy out DJ. Or if Matthews starts playing too well, they can buy him out as well. Both are expiring contracts.

a solid? Knicks just paved the way for Kyrie to head home and team with a player he respects in KD WITH the potential to add someone else like a Cousins or an AD if they land #1 or even #2 if the Pels want RJ and Knox. I'd say the Lakers and Celts should be very bothered by this news

Except Kyrie isn’t leaving. They can pitch a Hail Mary to Durant to go there, maybe even get Kemba to go with him too but I doubt it. The Knicks have been clown shoes for years

EDIT: Knicks have about $71m in cap room, enough to land KD and Kyrie.

As it stands, they'd a little shy of being able to match AD's trade number next offseason, but AD could waive the trade kicker and they can get there.

But... to have any chance to beat out Boston's offer, they really need that pick to come in high -- likely #1 for Zion. Only a 14% shot at that, and even that is debatable to beat out Tatum and picks.

Their AD offer would be 2019 pick, Knox, DSJ, Ntilikina, Mitchell, future picks.
