Nope that's just if he signs the QO (which leaves him an UFA in 2020). Caphold is 17m.

His 2020 cap hold will be $17 million. His 2019 cap number will be his actual salary of $4.4 million.

Only if he takes the QO. Which he hasn't yet.

Until he takes the QO its 17m. And no rookie FA has ever turned down a max and taken the QO. And once KP is here with Doncic and Dirk as a mentor, he's not going to turn that down. Especially coming off an injury. He's not turning down over 100m guaranteed money.

Reports are that he is going to opt into the qualifying offer and go into free agency in 2020.

F***
Mavs now owe THREE 1st rounders.
I hope Donnie is really damn confident the Mavs will be good because we are now stuck with Hardaway Jr's contract, Barnes (who will probably opt in), and most likely a Porzingis max not to mention in 3 years we'll probably give Luka a max extension.
The draft is basically the only way of cost control for good, young talent and now the Mavs are going to have to be smart about surround these two with good pieces.

I can see why the Knicks traded KP, He hasn't played this year and he missed how many games last year with the injury? It's a risky move for the Mavericks. Unless KP gets 100% healthy and stays healthy he can be agruably top 25 player so KP is for best player in the trade if he's healthy.

Definitely a risk. Not really a fan of trading picks as it's a good source to get cheap talent. I like KP but his height and injury history concern me.

Knicks fan here, I come in peace. The sky is literally the limit for KP, incredible athleticism and coordination for a 7'3 man, can spread the floor at the 5 with legit 3 point range and is one of the best rim protectors in the league. In my opinion, he was horribly miscast at the 4, at the 5 he'd be unguardable and he'd be able to patrol the paint instead of guarding the perimeter like he did at the 4. He didn't have one easy basket his whole tenure in NY, we didn't have a PG. He's going to be amazing finishing pick and rolls and pick and pops with Doncic.

I'm not even mad at this point, I'm used to Knick incompetence. In this dog eat dog sport, the cream rises to the top and you guys turned Trae Young and Dennis Smith JR into Doncic and KP, absolutely incredible front office work.

Congratulations from a Celtics fan. Add someone like Leonard or Durant in free agency and we will see you in the 2019 NBA Finals! :D

Prefer Brunson as a SG/PG. He plays really well with Luka and gives them a 2ndary ball handler. I think they also saw this is and made DSJ expendable. What's even more scary for them, these two are both rookies and already playing well so adding a healthy KP could do wonders for them in a few years time.

You don't want Tommy Hardaway starting, he's one of the worst defensive guards in the league. You have a real coach, which may help but you want him off the bench -- see if he's hot on catch and shoots and hide him on a 2nd unit opposing player.

No worries, Detroit still sucks, so you still win.

I heard the trade includes two of Dallas future first round picks to the knicks as well.

Well Luka is not playing as well so that's 4 starters missing :D .. Which means 40 shots for Barnes. And yes those 2 extra draft picks makes it worse a bit.

Let's see what the picks are before we make any judgement. I read we're looking to acquire one earlier, then it says they'll be well down the road.
I'll wait and see. KP is something else but I am worried about his long term joint health. If he stays healthy we have a home run. His game is perfect next to Luka.

Not when you're winning 55 games.

This trade is a rarity among salary dumps: obviously we picked up an asset in KP, but THJ actually fills one of our biggest needs as a bench scorer, which is the general role I assume he takes. Now, I really have no idea what lineups we'll be putting on the court for the rest of the season, but hopefully he can free up Barnes to... iso less? Play more defense? Perhaps that's wishful thinking.

Ok, had a think.

Overall still absolutely love it. Worst case you're losing 2 protected 1sts while still in Lukas rookie contract. If KP stays healthy we have one hell of a foundation of our franchise and we are **** lucky to have it and will attract lots of good players to fill out the roster. If he goes down for some reason we should suck enough to keep the picks?

Hardaway is only 26 and whilst he's certainly making too much maybe RC can turn him into a slightly more efficient player.
Burke is also only 26 so maybe some hope there too.
Both should see better shooting percentages playing off of Luka and KP than this Knicks roster.
Lee is expiring at the end of next season so I'd like to believe he'd be a movable asset starting this summer.

The future is bright and what an incredible way to continue Dirks legacy... couldn't ask for more than having the 2 brightest Euro prospects together take over from him.
