Is Justice a PG?

Post#1 » by Beenie » Thu Jan 31, 2019 1:56 am

Been seeing many posts here suggesting that Winslow is the answer at PG and so I'm curious to see how many posters actually believe that Miami should develop Winslow as their longterm PG. Poll's up.

Is PG his best position? yup, looks like it.

Can he be a decent PG? I have no doubt.

Is his skillset enough to become a great PG, or enough to lead a team to sucsses as a PG? I'm really, really not sure.

He's capable but not comfortable. His been great but he just shys away from the responsibility of being the primary ballhandler. Needs to be more intentional, especially with his own offense

He can be a good PG on this team with multiple ball handlers. I am not sure he would be as successful if we had a more standard lineup and he is the full-time floor general.

If by PG you mean bring the ball up the court and hand it to the better ball handlers, sure. He isn’t a PG. This is a last ditch effort to raise that value, can’t blame them either

I'd be happy he can top out as a poor man's PG.
Paul George can take this current team to the ECF this year.

Oh, you mean point guard? idk.
He needs to improve his outside shot a lot in today's game.
If your pg is a poor to mediocre shooter, it really handicaps your team.
If he can be a reliable shooter, I think he can be a pg similar to Chauncey Billups.
Not an assist machine but a playmaker. But I think I would still want a veteran pg on the team.

I’m glad he is showing some improvement. I’m worried that this is what year 3 and the team cant figure out what position to put him in? We have played him in every position, from PG to C, from starter to bench player and we still dont know what we have. That’s odd to say the least.

Justise is a ball player who we are finding out what position best suits his talent and our needs. I do believe he end up as the Point Guard/Point Forward for the rest of his career. He reminds me of Ron Harper with his size and ability. I can see him becoming that type of player

I dont think he shy's away from the duties as much as Spo taking the ball out of his hands beating the dead horse trying to make something out of bloodsport and his trash line ups

Give the man actual shooters and see how many assists he piles up, there has been so many sweet passed that he's dished out but 80% of them the pretend shooters miss, the only real consistent one is bumpy sadly.

I would say no. I honestly think his best position would be more of a point forward and the secondary ball handler for a team. Pair him up with a scoring PG that can hit the 3, have those 2 run the offense and he runs the offense when the PG is on the bench.

I think he can be the current day version of Iggy. Basically if 3pt shooting was the thing when Iggy was in his prime.

Iggy per 36 (23 years old):
16/5/5 on 44/31/82 shooting

Winslow's per 36 this year:
15/6/5 on 43/39/65 shooting

You look at per 36 numbers, he really isnt all that far off of prime Iggy. Now he needs to continue to get more efficient scoring the ball. Prime Iggy's TS% pretty much bounced around from 53-56%, Justise is at 51%. The uptick in 3pt attempts while still slowly raising his % is a great sign. The addition of his little floater and a more consistent mid range jumper has been great. Honestly the next step is getting to that 60% mark at finishing at the rim. I think if he gets there, he can make some all stars in the East.

I dont think he shys away as much as it is other guys just dont seem to get with the program. We’ve been consistently better when he’s controlled the offense, and consistently worse when he’s forced to sit in the corner and watch JJ or Dion dictate. I agree he’s a capable point, but I think he needs to be with more compatible, free flowing pieces

I also agree with Duke, he’s definitely a point something.

He's gotta step up, we're not winning a championship only playing guys subordinate to him. The other guys don't get the program because his body language his consistently saying "Swing the ball to someone else"

We've taken him out of the 4 spot and put the ball in his hands, he's gotta make that initiative. A large part of player development is on the team but moreso the players. There's especially certain respect that you have to demand out there on the court

Winslow is NOT a point guard, period.

A point guard's responsibilities go beyond being able to get the ball up court without getting consistently ripped and occasionally throwing lobs to the bigs.

The PG should be able to break his man down off the dribble and get into the paint especially if a defensive switch is forced.

A PG ought to be able to set up the offense and direct traffic to organize high percentage field goal attempts.

A PG should possess an explosive first step.

Justise is NOT a PG.

I prefer to break down your “rules” for being a PG and you can come up with your own list of names.

1. The PG should be able to break his man down off the dribble and get into the paint especially if a defensive switch is forced.

Justise has done this, particularly on switches.

2. A PG ought to be able to set up the offense and direct traffic to organize high percentage field goal attempts.

This is just a generic, filler description of what a PG “should” do. Directing traffic isnt even a quantifiable statistic that I could make a list of players who do this. The offense is always going to be the sum of the collective players on the floor. When he’s been able to control the offense he’s generated looks for others.

3. A PG should possess an explosive first step.

An explosive first step is no more important for a PG than it is for any other position on the floor. A SG should possess an explosive first step, a SF should possess an explosive first step, a PF should possess an explosive first step. Another generic filler description.
