Didn't Marquis have a 6.02 ERA last year? What's your point exactly?

5 years, 20 million is a downright bargain for a guy who has the potential to be a #4 or #5 starter when the likes of Jason Marquis are making $7 million a year and Ted Lily is making $10 million a year.

You do realize Ted Lilly has a 3.51 ERA and Jason Marquis has a 4.18 ERA while Igawa has a 6.79 ERA right?

gee, i wonder which owner started the trend of paying people a million dollars to play baseball, leading to outrageous contracts for crappy players?

Give it a rest. You're made at Steinbrenner Omar Minaya giving Carlos Beltran that contract?

You realize that Ted Lily was a career mediocrity in the AL, right? Igawa's ERA would probably be in the 4's if he pitched in the weak NL.

Ted Lilly's career ERA in the AL is 4.52, nothing great but average. Kei Igawa just sucks. There's a reason he was sent all the way down to Class A.

He was sent to class A because that's where the Yankees' facilities are in Tampa so he can be around all of the pitching coordinators of the system and what not to refine his mechanics. So yes, there was a reason. Just not the one you were thinking of. Now he is in Scranton.

Okay the point still remains he sucked so bad they sent him to the minors.

I truly think this guy has an upside with the Yankees organization.

He's been sent down to the minors so much because he had to work on his mechanics and control. Every young pitcher has to do that. The Yankees just thought he would be ready because he had experience in Japan.

Still, I wish he wouldn't wear those (Please Use More Appropriate Word) goggles.

He's 28. Hardly a young pitcher.

What would it take for you guys to admit it was a bad signing? A 16 ERA? If he killed a man?

The guy has been in this country for 6 months, in Japan he could live up in the zone because HE HAS GOOD STUFF. If he can learn to get the ball down, and keep it there he will be successful. Not too hard to ask with a little coaching

How exactly does he have "good stuff"? He has a very straight fastball that struggles to hit 90 MPH that he is ALWAYS leaving up in the zone (which is part of the reason he K's batters, as they'll chase the fastball upstairs knowing there is a decent chance they can hit it 450 feet). His changeup is a solid pitch (although, really nothing special--without even factoring in how god awful his command of it is and how often he leaves it up in the zone to get crushed) but it is the only pitch he has that is even an average MLB pitch. He doesn't throw too many curves and when he does, they aren't all that good.

I just don't see how this guy has shown anything other than horrible results, horrible command and below average stuff.
