I don't know if NOL did a good job over the years trying to surround AD with talent. Maybe they kind of botched that process. Maybe it was a little harder than meets the eye, and maybe trying to go places in the West is tough work, even with someone like AD on your team.

Still, whatever the case, I do find it rather sad when this kind of thing happens. Sad for the Pelicans and sad for the city. Giannis was quite possibly headed towards the same situation before the Bucks happened to take off this season. Meanwhile, the friggin' Warriors are talking about arranging a way to nab AD during the summer. Good grief. Even if that doesn't happen, it's still a nauseating thought.

Kevin Durant, you can go on sucking it. :(

I hate how good that trade is for the Knix. Like it's unfathomably incredible. Unprotected pick, top 10 protected pick, a good prospect, dump two huge terrible contracts... For an injury prone, 7'2 beanpole malcontent who's planning to take the QO and become unrestricted next summer. Am I missing anything?

And I thought the word UNPROTECTED is taboo after the Billy king debacle...

I thought you were kidding in that other thread.

KP has battled injuries but he's an all star on a rookie contract. You can't trade him as a sweetener for cap space. That's absurd. Call his bluff on the QO. Sell him on the team by making the right moves.

It makes it worse that the Knicks chose to hand out those dumb contracts.

Those picks are coming in 2021 and 2023. And the Mavs aren't the Billy King era Nets. They have legit star in his rookie year along with KP + one of the best coaches in the league + a winning organization. Very unlikely those picks are near the lottery.

A clean slate is nice. Cap space is nice. But they're the laughing stock of the league at the moment. No chance any star signs there with no players or infrastructure in place built for winning.

I was not. This can certainly workout in the Mavs favor, but players of his body type are almost always injury prone and players of his height often take long to comeback from stuff like ACL's, compared to others in the modern sports medicine era.

KP has battled injuries but he's an all star on a rookie contract. You can't trade him as a sweetener for cap space. That's absurd. Call his bluff on the QO. Sell him on the team by making the right moves.

But they didn't trade him for cap space. They traded him for a good prospect in DSJ, 2 first round picks and cleared the way to have a chance at pairing 2 max guys in FA. I am certainly skeptical of the latter actually happening, but they are now in the mix, which they weren't just hours ago.

It makes it worse that the Knicks chose to hand out those dumb contracts.

For sure it does, no argument here.

Those picks are coming in 2021 and 2023. And the Mavs aren't the Billy King era Nets. They have legit star in his rookie year along with KP + one of the best coaches in the league + a winning organization. Very unlikely those picks are near the lottery.

It's still really shortsighted imho. Porzingis can bounce and he's injury prone. They're already shipping their pick to Atlanta this draft. They aren't going to have all that much cap space themselves either. And you just do not know what happens in the case of injuries, etc., to any of your key players. The 2021 pick is the crazy one to me. The 2023 one is kind of whatever depending on how the protection goes in the following drafts if it doesn't convey in 2023.

A clean slate is nice. Cap space is nice. But they're the laughing stock of the league at the moment. No chance any star signs there with no players or infrastructure in place built for winning.

I agree they're still a disaster at the top, but there is some writing on the wall for them to nab 2 big time guys this summer, maybe Kemba and Middleton even if they miss on everyone else. Or they roll the cap over. Or use it to help facilitate a trade for a Beal or even Anthony Davis, who they will have the assets for with a top 5 pick and a multitude of other picks including that unprotected Mavs pick.

Wow and let the dominoes fall! I agree MDB, if I were Ainge, I'd try to mitigate this disaster right away and get something for Kyrie now before he's gone.

KP is the guy mavs wanted badly for quite some time and when the opportunity came they just went for it. It looks like they were ready to overpay just to make sure they actually get him and not some other team.

Mavs are building a team and not just getting good players together and hope everything works. KP with Doncic is a perfect fit, Dirk legacy, and even logo ...

If KP is able to come back at 100% you've got one of the top wing/big duos in the sport. I'd be ecstatic if I were yall.

Around the NBA, 2018-19 Season thread

Post#337 » by Paradise » Wed Feb 6, 2019 1:02 am

I feel so sorry for Wizards fans and John Wall. His extension hasn’t even kicked in yet and they are officially in purgatory after today.

After just starting a 6-8 month rehab for bone spurs in his ankles. Wall ruptures his achillies tendon after slipping and falling in his home. He’s out until 2020 at the earliest.

Damn.

Bradley Beal probably all kinds of available now. Crabbe/RHJ/Musa/Denver 1st for Beal? I'll see myself out...
