I think Trae has the potential to be an all-star player - especially in the East. IMO Trae has overtaken Ayton on the rookie ladder. Hilariously, Trae might be ruining the tank for the Hawks right now. We don't know for sure but I have a sneaking suspicion the Suns are holding Ayton out longer than they need to add insurance for their tank.

He passed him in PPG on the rookie ladder but he is still well behind Ayton overall especially having only played 4 less games.

Young is still averaging 41% from the field and 30% from 3 whilst being close to the worst defensive PG in the league.

He is 483rd out of 484 players in the league in DRPM, the only guy worse than him in the whole entire competition is Colin Sexton. Yeah DRPM has to be taken into context but that is horrific, -4.08 DRPM is one of the lowest recorded since the stat came out.

17/3/7/1 on 41/30/80 with a PER of 14.1, TS of 52.2%, OWS of 0.1, DWS of 0.4, OBPM -0.2 of and DBPM of -3.0 and VORP of -0.5 with a 27% usage.

Vs

16/11/2/1/1 on 59/0/77 with a PER of 21.5, TS of 62%, OWS of 3.3, DWS of 1.1, OBPM of 0.8, DBPM of 0.6 and VORP of 1.3 with a 21% usage.

It’s pretty clear with Ayton killing Young in every raw and advanced stat whilst being much less of a liability defensively and doing it all with less touches and without a PG that Young is still way behind.

It could be argued he’s been better in the last 5 or so games but on the season as a whole he is nowhere near surpassing Ayton on the overall ladder.

Trae's slow start to the season is depressing his stats. It's clear he has come alive lately.
If you look at his stats for the past 10 games they look like this:

21.7 ppg, 7.8 ast, 4.1 rbs
on
47% fg
34% 3pt

He is averaging 4 tov in this stretch but he is the primary ball handler and a rookie so this isn't too alarming.

Let's not jinx things, but Luka is on pace for a 50 points triple-double at half time. He probably won't get there. But 40-10-10 would be awesome.

Doncic killing... 28 Pts in 1'st half... Dude is unbelivable!

Will Zion be better BBall player than Luka? I don't know!

Luka hit 1000 points tonight.

Personally, I don't ever see him being a league-leading scorer type but if he becomes anything like Dirk longevity and consistency would put him on the path to 20K and maybe beyond.

Luka on 'youngest player to score 50 points in a game watch' - 32 points on 18 shots with 15 minutes left in the game.

Current record holder is Shanxi Brave Dragons' legend Brandon Jennings - 20 years 52 days (luka is turning 20 at the end of this month).

Dear Luka... at the off chance that you read RealGM in between quarters, if there is any advice I could give you to reach this feat it would be to follow the time-proven method of putting the ball through the basket.

Disappointing 35/11/6 tonight from Luka. 7/6/1 in the 2nd half. I was hoping for at least 40 points. Oh well...

Bit dissapointed too... He had 28/5/5 going to 2'nd half... I was hoping for at least 40 Pts triple double from a rookie... How far Luka lifted the bar for himself

Didn't they switch the ball at the beginning of the 3rd? I missed what happened, but I saw Carlisle choosing a new ball and throwing it to Doncic. And at that time I thought that it would mess him up psychologically. He even made a weird face has he got the ball. Maybe it's not the reason, but most athletes are superstitious and it doens't take much to become slightly off.

Doncic was in some foul trouble too. I think he picked up his 4th in the third quarter.

Guys calm down lol. He doesn't have the stamina yet to carry heavy load on offense for extended periods of game. I noticed that fatigue kicks in a lot of times in the 2nd half when he has to score a ton.

And yea this is where we are now. We're sad when a 19yo, who apparently has a low ceiling, scores only 35 points :D

As mentioned above Trae took the game completely over a the end, including a couple long bomb three's. Deandre Ayton was extremely weak in the paint tonight. Not overly impressed with him.
