Gonna take a while for Ed to dig it out

What indication is there that we're trying to dig out?

Gores is becoming a major problem. He knows nothing yet is out here trying to build relationships with players and vetoing trades. If he was a competent basketball mind type like Cuban even then fine but he should step back in a big way and let a GM do what needs to be done without some mandate from a rich coke head.

People give Ed the benefit of the doubt basically because he's somebody they perceive to be be new, and maybe most importantly not SVG. People frequently say well he hasn't made any bad trades or signed bad free agent contracts. But the reality is he COULDN'T have made any moves like that, because the team is so hamstrung by the always looming luxury tax.

His one free agent signing, has been terrible on the floor. He used what precious little flexibility/money and the only way Detroit had to get better, on a very bad player who has never been a legit NBA rotation player and he has predictably been terrible in Detroit. Worse, he committed to that guy a couple hours into free agency. Its alarming the caliber of player he seems to be targeting and falling all over himself to get.

Stefanski has been around a LONG time with a handful of different teams and hasn't ever really been all that remarkable of a front office executive.

There really is no legit reason to think that he's going to somehow magically become a great or even good GM at this point, being 65 years old no less.

No that was the story for when we got Blake. Blake isn't the problem, it's everyone else. Well everyone else is an expiring next offseason. That's jackson Galloway and Leuer. They should be very easy to move! So basically this year has been a wash. The BEST thing we can do is tank hardcore this season then move on to trying to compete again.

I’m just hoping he’ll be less abysmal at drafting than our previous regime. Might be too tall an order though.

I still think Gores is the biggest current problem though.

To me Gores seems toolbag-ish enough to be easily swayed by others. Like I just have to believe the Blake trade was SVG convincing Gores and not the other way around.

If I'm right then there is at least some small hope that we dumb-lucked into a more competent GM who can also steer Gores as well.

Unless we can move Dre or Reggie Jackson, the best form of digging is doing nothing. Sad reality is it’s a number of years before we’re relevant, how old will Blake be in 2021?

Yeah this team makes no sense.
