but why? He had awful numbers last year with Tampa and he's 35. He will get lit up at the Rogers centre. don't want.

I’m thinking Montoya might want him to use him for the opener.
0.5 WAR and 3.75 K:BB not bad if you can get him under 3M like Oh

Yeah, Romo's selling point is that he has excellent peripherals. Romo's downside is that, when people square up that 86 MPH, they tend to deposit it in the Horsehead Nebula.
**** your asterisk.

Willing to trade Sixto Sanchez, but not willing to trade Mickey Moniak. Makes sense.

Lawrie signs with the brewers
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/02/brewers-sign-brett-lawrie.html
2B/3B Brett Lawrie, out of baseball since the conclusion of the 2016 season, announced on Instagram today that he has signed with Milwaukee. The nature of the deal remains unclear; Lawrie, after such a long absence, would figure to be in line only for a minors pact, perhaps with an invite to Spring Training, though an incentive package predicated upon an eventual MLB promotion may well be in play, too.
More to come…

He's probably near replacement level right now, can still be useful to a team with an injured starter or something.

I would love to see The Opener come to Toronto.

Re: 2018-19 Offseason Thread
The below-market extension returns: Aaron Nola signed for a deal that maxes out at $61m from 2019-2023, buying out two years of free agency in the process. Given that his arb estimate was $6.6m, that's really quite cheap; it's probably below what he'd have earned in three years of arbitration, and it comes with two FA years priced at $15.5m and $16m, respectively.
I'll reiterate that I think the Jays should throw $100m/8 or something at Vlad in May. With free agency increasingly painful, a deal guaranteeing big money is fairly attractive even if it buys out multiple FA seasons.

Leafs should have done this with Matthews and Marner last summer.... Even Kapanen (and Johnsson?) would have made sense.
If you believe in your guys, you no longer get the luxury of watching them for an extra year or 2 to "prove it" to you. You make the call and you pony up the money early.

I agree with this philosophy but Vlad’s dad made 140M+ in his career. I don’t think Vlad needs the money, could bet on himself as a potential generational player and get to free agency sooner and make more money.
But I would be interested in Stroman and Sanchez extensions. More Stroman than Sanchez
