I don't believe in Harris. I think he's the kind of guy who plays well without expectations, and shrinks under pressure. I certainly wouldn't give him a MAX contract.
I don't see Butler sticking around either. He's already proven to be a glory hound, and I don't think there's enough glory left in Philly to quench his thirst.

That’s the beauty of the deal he has no expectations on him. He’s going to be the 4th or 5th option any given night.

It's possible, but I'm not sure he's ever been in an NBA situation with real expectations has he? What pressure has there been when he shrunk?

My only concern with this trade is that it's a whole lot of scorers on one team now. Maybe Ben Simmons can become strictly a passing Stockton type now that they have 3 other more than capable scorers.
The thing is, with how much the Sixers split up their lineups, there are huge stretches where Simmons was playing with no other creators. Like against the Lakers they played 12 minutes with a Simmons/TJ/Shamet/Brewer/Muscala lineup. Now they'll be able to slot Harris in there and basically be the top scoring option.
Ah yeah, like a 6th man type.
Although, I think it's important for him to get 30+ minutes a night because they desperately need the scoring.
How much better do you think the 6ers are, and now do you feel they have a legit chance to compete with Bucs, Celtics and Toronto?
Think they need to add at least two more guys via cheap trade or buyouts. If they could add Matthews and Ellington I think they'd have a legit shot.

Gotta look at it as Butler vs Covington and Harris vs Saric, they have improved a lot but their bench needs work and they need either Fultz or Smith to come back with the ability to defend.
Also, on the ringer podcast someone pointed out that their capholds will afford the Sixers around $20 million to sign another player if they can convince Butler/Harris to hold off on resigning.

That cap space number isn't accurate. Just with their cap holds and Embiid and Ben's salaries that's already about 90M right there.

Re: Woj: Clippers Trade Tobias Harris to Sixers for Landry Shamet, Two 1st Rnds, Wilson Chandler
At first, I thought this was an over pay. However, Tobias Harris' name never came up in rumors. Would the Sixers, who apparently were working on this deal with LA for weeks or a month, have been able to do it for these assets if the market had gotten wind that Harris was available?
I also think this is an acknowledgement by Brand that with two LA's and 2 NYC's having max cap space that the chances of landing a fish bigger than Harris was slim at best. Getting Harris now allows them to pay him more and get him involved in their culture and give him a taste of winning.
Good move by both teams. I think adding Boban is an under the radar coup for Brand.

Clippers get their cap, picks (potentially top 5-10), and also have a ton of role players/depth. Philly's long term potential is an unknown if the new Big 4 doesn't work as planned. It's a no gamble versus definite gamble for the teams involved.
Winner: Clippers
I think this is a prime example of our tendencies to value future over the basketball that's being played on the court right now.
For example, you're saying that the draft picks that the Clippers will get in a few years that may or may not become rotation players and the cap space that they may or may not use to sign free agents is better than a team making a move that will most likely propel them to the NBA finals. The Clippers have made a good move no doubt, and are now set up to build a good team moving forward. But the Sixers are probably going to accomplish this year what the Clippers hope to accomplish in 3 to 4 years using picks and cap space created from this trade.
How does LAC not gamble with this deal? They made their team worse in the short run in the hopes of getting free agents or draft picks that will help them get better in the future....there's nothing guaranteed for either side for sure, but the 76ers improved their team with this move and have probably become the favorites to make the NBA finals.
We are all becoming to obsessed with the future and forgetting the games being played in my opinion.
The Clippers simply didn't plan on signing Tobias again. They also didn't believe they would have much success this playoffs. Instead of losing an asset and having a non-impactful playoff run they cashed in their biggest asset.
The Clippers have been directly linked to nearly every star on the move. Their cap situation has more value in the long run than anything happening this season with their former roster. As long as they don't blow cap space they have a lot of wiggle room.
If losing Tobias while exiting early in the POs was a certainty, picking up picks and cap is not a gamble.
I'm not a giant fan of the trade for the 76ers. I see flaws in their roster construction. They've emptied the cannons and haven't locked in their Big 4 long term. If they struggle with depth they have much less to work with now. I don't see this as a loss for the 76ers, as much as a chips in, win now move.
Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great trade for LAC. They turned a player that was either gonna walk or they'd have to overpay into some great assets. They also avoid fighting the for the 8 see with Plan-B stars on bad contracts. I really like what they did here.
But I think there's also a lot of value in what Philly did. They paid a lot for him, but they made their team better clearly and filled a need, while also getting his bird rights so they can add other talent and still pay him. They paid a lot, definitely more than he's worth in a vacuum, but Philly wants to win this year and they gave themselves a much better chance of fielding a contender for the next 3-4 years.

Scott is better than Muscala too. Boban is good for 6-8 minutes a night. Losing Shamet hurts the most for their bench tho
No he isn't. Both have been pretty mediocre this year, but Muscala has a better PER, BPM, TS%, VORP, etc. He at least stretches the floor as a big. Scott is just a streaky tweener.
From what I've seen Muscala actively hurts their team because of his defense and he is streaky as well so he was never worth it, he was supposed to be their backup 5 but the Sixers became no less desperate for a backup C. If Scott is even passable at D he's an upgrade or at worst a sideways move.

They could max someone as a massive free agent destination in 2020 to go with perfect aged Adebayo, Winslow and Richardson.
That pick is going to be 10-16 at best for Clippers.
Half of the players are injured this year, they’ve been trash and are still in pick 15 position. Just wait til they can use that cap space next off season and the fact they have Pat Riley who has let Miami finish with 1 pick inside the top 10 in the last 15 years.
The Tyler Johnson trade didn't make any difference to their cap situation though, it just helped them reduce their tax bill a little. If anything it lessened the talent on their roster for this and next season, when they likely waive Anderson to lessen his cap hit, but still have his guaranteed $15M count to their cap.
Take a look at the free agents available in 2020, when they could have a max of $30-32M in capspace. The only one that can make a big impact is Anthony Davis and it's not a realistic option for them. The best of the rest is guys like Draymond Green, Lowry, Marc Gasol, Gallinari, Ibaka, Eric Gordon, Randle or Harrell. None of those guys are making a big difference, if they can even convince them to go there. And those $30-32M assume you renounce Dragic and are locked into a core of James Johnson, Olynyk, Waiters, Richardson, Winslow and Adebayo.
Not saying they're sure to be a top pick or anything, and they can move stuff around and make trades with other future picks, but it's not looking like they have a ceiling any higher than fighting for the lower playoff spots in the east. And if stuff goes wrong, or whoever owns the pick get some luck in the lottery, the upside is big.
That pick is very valuable.

Done with the Sixers I'm guessing. Guess he got "injured" again or started sitting out when TJ got minutes ahead of him.

Atlanta apparently want him so its likely he's traded today.

He has been an afterthought from most people, but I think he has much better value than that 76ers pick. I think he goes around 15 in a redraft, maybe higher. It's hard to step on an NBA floor and immediately shoot the way he does. He can already hit the 3 in every way. Fly around a screen to a catch and shoot.... not a problem. Off the bounce, no problem. He is a knockdown shooter from everywhere and his game is only going to get better. He looks like McCollum to me. He is actually more athletic than he seems as well.
He doesn't have McCollum's handle but he might be a better shooter.
With Landry it's all gonna be about developing his body and conditioning. He's always gonna struggle against elite length so he's gonna have to create an extra few inches of separation to get that shot off.

It has only gotten better during the season. I really think a couple of months with JJ has given him a great jump start to his career. Rooting for Landry!

That seems very aggressive to me. As I said he doesn't have the ball handling to make that seem like a reality. At best I think he'll be able to run some fairly simple P&Rs.
I think he'd be best served concentrating on becoming an elite catch and shoot 3 point guy, and developing his body to the point that he's not getting physically overwhelmed on both ends.

I am still surprised at how much the Clippers got back for Tobias Harris. A good rookie in Shamet plus two FRPs? Wow!!
Polar opposite of Hinkie that’s for sure and I still don’t know how much he will help the 76ers since they already have Butler plus other guys that need the ball in their hands like Embiid and Simmons.
