I hate being a Pistons fan.

Post#1 » by Han Solo » Thu Feb 7, 2019 8:16 pm

Been over 10 years since I’ve been proud of this team. I quit watching the Lions a few years back after watching them since 1986. I’m at that point with the Pistons. This is the worst era in the 34 years I’ve watched them.

Toronto, Milwaukee and Philadelphia are all-in. Why were you hoping to mortgage our future for a sweep?

What would you have done this year? And then whatever you come up with, imagine they ask for two more first round picks and ask yourself if you would have still done that?

I’m not just referring to this deadline. It’s been a rough 12 years.

I’m with you. Choose a damn direction and go all in. This mediocrity treadmill is exhausting.

We are mediocre because someone overpaid for Leuer, Galloway and other garbage.

I have been a die hard Piston fan for 16 years. I was around 13 when I started really playing basketball and following the Pistons because my family that wasn't NBA fans. I had no idea how spoiled I was from 2003-2008. I've followed them through league pass even after moving to CA, and now TX. This past decade has been a nightmare, and has me considering raising my son who was born in LA as a Lakers fan because I can't watch him suffer like I have.

In all reality I will watch the Pistons forsaking my own sanity and hope they can navigate this way through this mess in the next few years. There are a couple things that will keep me engaged.

-Blake- He is a phenomenal basketball player, and I do not think he will lose value. If things don't work out, I think he can get a good returning package.
-The T-Rex twins - I think Kennard is underrated by quite a few and can develop into a solid pro. Svi is an interesting addition to the team and has a pretty sweet shot too.
-The Rest of the young guys- Kyri, Thon, Bruce.
-2020 expiring contacts. Lets see what those can fetch next year.

So just don't compete? That's one thing I just don't understand about some posters here. We clearly needed an upgrade at the 2 and 3 spot, but did nothing.

We're mediocre because we drafted Luke, Ellenson, stanley and KCP and traded away our other picks. We've spent a decade where we should have had decent picks every year and all we have to show for it is dre.

This is the result of over 10 years of short-sighted win now moves that left the cupboards bare bundled with poor player development / drafting of the crumbs that remained.

We've been trying to 'win now' basically since 2004.

So maybe we are having a fresh start. Weird doing it with Griffin, I know.

It always start at the top. Ownership is the biggest competitive advantage in the NBA.
Mr. Davidson was a great, compassionate owner who put great people in charge for the Pistons to succeed. His widow didn't give a $hit and Gores is one of the worst owners in the NBA. The last decade for sure has been frustrating for every die hard Pistons fan.

This, and moreover because the same person made the tragic determination and miscalculation that Reggie Jackson and Andre Drummond were franchise-caliber players worthy of building a team around. And then treated them as such.

I’ll admit this ones tough to swallow even by the standards set by the season.

We got worse, but didn’t clearly signal a rebuild. Nor did we add anything that substantially improves our future outlook. We’re basically wannabe buyers who couldn’t actually buy anything.

it takes two teams to agree to a deal.

I'm so glad they didn't give up their pick this year

I agree. Ive stopped watching games for a few months now.
This deadline I was hoping the FO would get someone that would at least get me interested again since they don't want to rebuild and all they did was get rid of our best wing and another guy I was rooting for. I can't imagine watching another game for the season.

Yes.

The whole “let’s spend future assets to improve slightly” has gotten us where we are. The only way we were going to get (marginally) better now is by comprimising the future (giving up picks, taking on bad contracts)

Being in the middle, clawing with desperation at a bottom playoff spot is the worst place to be and we’ve been there for a decade.

The disappointing thing is that we didn’t commit to selling big. Our only hope is Blake stays healthy and we make a deal with whichever teams get left out of the Anthony Davis sweepstakes.

You might be surprised how much you’d prefer watching a young and developing squad lose a bunch of games rather than this one underachieve.

We should be called the Detroit Penguins because our wings are useless.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

As upset as I was and still am about last years deadline, it made clear what the direction of the team was.

I’d rather have a direction I disagree with than no direction at all. If you’re going to sell, then SELL.

Funny, but insulting to penguins. They use their wings to swim.
