I am sad JV never got his chance to be featured more, and to learn to create.
he is ridiculously efficient, was thinner this year, but his 3pt shot attempts didnt go up
He's been a stud in the playoffs before.
oh well

Awesome trade. We didn’t give up much. Gives us flexibility if he declines his option and Kawhi walks.

Why would Enes Valanciunas fans be upset about this trade?
He's going to put up big numbers on a tanking team. You guys can post threads about how well he's doing in Memphis since the numbers will be there. It's a dream scenario.

Re: Please post of you are UNHAPPY with the GASOL TRADE!
Look, I was one of the biggest JV fans around, but Gasol will make our team better in more ways than one. Like other posters said, it’s not just about scoring from the center position.
i. He’ll add another dimension to the offense with his playmaking and floor spacing. This also allows for Kawhi to post up more, and boy, he’s GREAT at it.
ii. He’s a vastly better defender than JV, and he’s even better at the greatest strength JV has when it comes to defense: defending against traditional, bully-type of centers.
The only potential issues here are rebounding and inside scoring right now.
Gasol is also a very good screen setter in his own right.

We have a very thin squad now so I expect there to be more pickups in the next month on the buyout market, so it will be easier to evaluate in a few weeks.
Do you think Marc Gasol will get offers upwards of $25 mil/year? Because if not, he's probably opting in to get that for another year.

I agree on the play making, that to me was the next step for JV. Yes he has better IQ but Gasol is so old now. JV is a much more efficient scorer and rebounder. He's flat out more productive on a minute by minute basis not to mention JV has been a beast for us in the playoffs. JV seemed to hold his own on defense against other big guys. Yes Gasol might be a better PnR defender but he's not what he used to be, the guy is going to be huffing and puffing come playoff time.

Re: Please post of you are UNHAPPY with the GASOL TRADE!
I love JV and I will keep my avatar forever , but this is not a bad trade at all . Gosol is huge update for us. He can shoot 3 , good passer , high BB IQ and he have a lot of experience play in the West . He will be an All Star if he play in the East. Also we get rid CJ contract which is amazing . We open up some spot now so the buyout market player willing to join us.

I shall use my head and be pretty happy about the trade.
Good Lord, the little stoner's got a point.

Re: Please post of you are UNHAPPY with the GASOL TRADE!
Bleacher Report
Grades
Raptors: A
Jonas Valanciunas was playing well this season before suffering a dislocated thumb that required surgery, and he's just getting set to return. But Marc Gasol is a clear offensive upgrade. He's a much better passer and more proven floor-spacer, and he's someone Toronto can run its offense through when Kyle Lowry and/or Kawhi Leonard take a seat.
Gasol's $25.6 million player option for next year, his age-35 season, is scary. Valanciunas has his own option worth $17.6 million, but an aging Big Spain is not $8 million better than him in a vacuum.
Toronto needed to make this swing anyway. Leonard's free agency looms (player option), and the offense, while starting to find a groove, needs a boost. The Raptors are an unimpressive 13th in points scored per 100 possessions and 24th in three-point accuracy since Dec. 1. Gasol addresses both cracks and should help generate more ball movement overall.
Escaping CJ Miles' $8.7 million player option is a low-key victory. Delon Wright is a real loss, but he's tracking toward a raise in restricted free agency and the bench just hasn't been the same. Toronto's second unit is 19th in point differential since Dec. 1.
The Raptors' nightmare scenario over the summer now includes watching Leonard sign with the Clippers, but still having Gasol (if he opts in) and Lowry on expiring contracts. That isn't a bad place to be. Both can be flipped, or Toronto can try and scrape together a quasi-contender before reassessing its position in 2020.
Also: Raptors president Masai Ujiri cutting Toronto's tax bill this season while landing a marquee name without trading away a first-round pick is, well, peak Masai Ujiri.

Now they get to see JV with a whole new team and another coach. Guess we will see very soon how right or wrong they were.

Heres the thing man. And I'll be frank. 34 year old Marc Gasol is still EVERYTHING we hoped prime JV would be. Gasol Is A great passer. Is jv? No. Still a very good defender. Is jv? No. Has a 3 point shot. Does jv? No.
In what way was this a bad move? 34 years old or not I just don't understand. Gasol is a CLEAR upgrade Nd this team is in WIN NOW mode .Open your eyes people. One underrated aspect of this would be the fact that Kawhi has has legit playoff battles with gasol and has a respect for him and an understanding for how good he is. An understanding a lot of casual Raptors fans dont seem to have.

At face value for what Gasol has achieved "previously" yes it seems like a good trade. JV is entering his prime as big men take longer to develop where has Gasol is at the end of it. Our main weakness was shooting and also rebounding. JV is better than GASOL in both aspects not mention JV has been one of our better playoff performers. I'm absolutely worried that GASOL gets hurt before or during the playoffs especially at his age.

Gasol is the 2nd best playmaker on this roster
Just gives opposing teams something else to gameplan for. Big to big action between him and Siakim will be fun to watch.
