This is the strangest thread. Not one JV truther in here. How can you argue against Gasol?

I am HAPPY with the trade but so UNHAPPY to see JV not part of the team. Winning a championship with Kawhi and Gasol won't feel as good as it would have with our boys DeMar and JV. It'll still feel good. But not as good.

I'll tell you in June.
I think he's either going to stay, or leave.

JV will do the 20/10 thing in Memphis

and lose a lot of games.

Should be great for all involved.

As was said.. we did not give up anything Re our future....

Was hoping for AD..but celts went all out... an AD signing would have stuck the middle finger at both celts and clippers....

Masai is top three gm so I fully support him....

My two cents:

We as Raptor fans can sit here and complain about the Raptors not getting to that next level with the same players every season.

Or accept change and hope that these trades will improve the team and take The Raptors to the next level if not more.

For myself I cant sit here and complain about a team not doing anything or complaining about not moving this guy and him ( for ex JV ) and yet I want more.

I'm sad to see the players leave but then again, these are the same players that have been on this team for years that have gotten the Raptors no where. Yes they where a part of the team that got The Raptors to options. But the overall goal wasn't the price ( such as winning the championship ).

Clearly is time for change. Raptors want to win. So this trade works out, it works out. If not then I'd say we have the right as fans to complain ( yes I realize where this is going lol ).

Give it hope. Who knows the outcome. Hard to predict what hasn't happened yet.

Gasol's defense better be a lot more impressive than I think it is at this stage. We gave up our most efficient scorer on the entire team and the only consistent scorer off the bench, along with the only elite rebounder which we've missed greatly. Gasol is not going to be anywhere near as efficient, so his passing and defense need to make up for it big time. I hope it's an upgrade, but I'm not really thrilled at the moment. We'll see how it goes.

Jonas Valanciunas was playing well this season before suffering a dislocated thumb that required surgery, and he's just getting set to return. But Marc Gasol is a clear offensive upgrade. He's a much better passer and more proven floor-spacer, and he's someone Toronto can run its offense through when Kyle Lowry and/or Kawhi Leonard take a seat.

Gasol's $25.6 million player option for next year, his age-35 season, is scary. Valanciunas has his own option worth $17.6 million, but an aging Big Spain is not $8 million better than him in a vacuum.

Toronto needed to make this swing anyway. Leonard's free agency looms (player option), and the offense, while starting to find a groove, needs a boost. The Raptors are an unimpressive 13th in points scored per 100 possessions and 24th in three-point accuracy since Dec. 1. Gasol addresses both cracks and should help generate more ball movement overall.

Escaping CJ Miles' $8.7 million player option is a low-key victory. Delon Wright is a real loss, but he's tracking toward a raise in restricted free agency and the bench just hasn't been the same. Toronto's second unit is 19th in point differential since Dec. 1.

The Raptors' nightmare scenario over the summer now includes watching Leonard sign with the Clippers, but still having Gasol (if he opts in) and Lowry on expiring contracts. That isn't a bad place to be. Both can be flipped, or Toronto can try and scrape together a quasi-contender before reassessing its position in 2020.

Also: Raptors president Masai Ujiri cutting Toronto's tax bill this season while landing a marquee name without trading away a first-round pick is, well, peak Masai Ujiri.

I can tell you this since I work with maximizing Cash flow for a living, that this was definitely a key part of this trade. That said, it is one hell of a risky move and potentially to the downside. You all better pray he does not get hurt, Our rebounding took a major blow too as JV>Gasol in this area and Delon rebounded well also for a PG. Those extra possessions so crucial in the playoffs!

Weird trade. I would've happily parted with jv and Delon and og or whoever if we were going after a legit star like Davis. But for a wazhed gasol? Also where is ibaka gonna play now? He's been great as a starter all season, is he going to the bench? I just don't understand how tee team dynamics are gonna work. I think this is a mistake tbh.

Everyone needs to see the highlights of gasol vs bucks, he hit 6/12 3s , his technique is nice, and his pick and roll with the guard driving to the lane gave him so many 3 pts shots like omg

I honestly am not shocked at the amount of people on this board that think this is a bad trade. IQ level of some posters on this forum has been on a steep decline.

Yeah because you’re going to land Anthony Davis for that dumpster fire package. Ya’ll are **** delusional.

The only thing I hate about this trade is giving up Delon, and not BumVleet. I've already swapped out my TV till the season ends because I know I'll be throwing random objects at it watching BumVleet f**k up plays and loose us games.

Raps will be in a great position after next year with almost no contracts on the book, except Powell and OG. Even if Kawhi leaves and Gasol opts out, we will be just fine.

On the personal side, I always loved JV and for me, his game against Embiid is so far the highlight of this season. All the best and hopefully he opts out and comes back :p

Except that's not the point I was trying to make at all. I'm saying I don't mind gutting the team if it's for a legit star. Like siakam og fvv for Davis. But to give up two good players for a guy past his prime and isn't really that much better at this point in his career doesn't make sense. If this wax marc gasol from a few years ago Its a great trade. But 34 year old washed gasol Idk.
