I am just extremely sad. I've been talking about this type of trade for a while, and even a while ago I thought it would be a bad idea - now when Gasol is even older, I think it's even more terrible. I do understand that we are trying to go all in, but I simply don't think Gasol is that guy. I've been watching him since he cracked the Spain's main team, so for like 15 years or so, and always thought that he is extremely overrated and his so called defensive prowess was mainly due to amazing defensive guards he had in Memphis.

I believe we gave up way, way, way too much for someone like Gasol.

Anyway, I hope that Gasol proves me wrong and is a beast for us, but until that happens I will maintain my opinion that it was a terrible trade.

Farewell JV, you will always be our giant. Stay strong in Memphis!

And best of luck to us, because we will need it.

I am not happy with the trade. I understand why Masai took the risk on 34 year old Gasol as this year is the only chance to win it all. But I honestly do not think it improved the team that much or increased chances to resign Kawhi long term. We will see.

Yeah because you’re going to land Anthony Davis for that dumpster fire package. Ya’ll are **** delusional.

Except that's not the point I was trying to make at all. I'm saying I don't mind gutting the team if it's for a legit star. Like siakam og fvv for Davis. But to give up two good players for a guy past his prime and isn't really that much better at this point in his career doesn't make sense. If this wax marc gasol from a few years ago Its a great trade. But 34 year old washed gasol Idk.

Who are the two good players though? Delon is a free agent at the end of the year and we have no plans to keep him. JV is solid but he is not even close to Marc gasol level. Gasol averages 5 assists a game on one of the worst teams in the nba. Not only that he is a much superior defensive player than JV and it’s not even close. CJ miles is literally a walking trash can and the second round pick is in 2024 (5 years down the line)

Same people complaining are the same people that didnt like the Kawhi trade at first..

The front office knows what they are doing.. Has Masai ever made a bad trade yet?

In what way was this a bad move? 34 years old or not I just don't understand. Gasol is a CLEAR upgrade Nd this team is in WIN NOW mode .Open your eyes people. One underrated aspect of this would be the fact that Kawhi has has legit playoff battles with gasol and has a respect for him and an understanding for how good he is. An understanding a lot of casual Raptors fans dont seem to have.

It seems like a lot of emotions to me from some. Gasol just does so much more and is only under contract for one more year. I'm not convinced JV was better in any aspect of the game. He wasn't what I envisioned for the ideal solution, but he's a good one with roster spots left to hopefully get a someone who can beat his man off the dribble or another shooter.

Well this goes back to other posts that Masai hitched his cart incorrectly to bumfleet and we should have given Delon more playing time. Gasol's defense is not what it used to be and he had very good defensive gaurds playing in front of him in Memphis. JV's one on one defense was good i.e. vs Embid. I agree his PnR defense could be better. Anyways if we were to actually make a headline trade, i was hoping for something much better i.e. Beal. This move does not move the needle for us at all IMHO.

We only have 10 players on our roster, so right now we are not better. We have to see who fills out the roster.

Nope. I woke up and read a text that we got Kawhi, my favorite elite player as I've been a Spurs fan as well for like 20+years and I basically fell out the bed. I then had arguments with family over why this is the best player to ever put on a Raptor jersey.
Gasol trade...Not thrilled, but whatever. He can prove me wrong. I've been wrong before. The passing should be fun to see, but the loss of rebounding, maybe not so much.

In his last 11 games Gasol has been ar around

19/8/5

He even has 2 bad ones in there which tilt his averages. Far from washed.

Here's a thought, instead of everyone arguing, why doesn't one of our wonderful posters put up some advanced stats? I'm curious to know how big Gasol's defensive impact has been in the past few years. Offense as well, but defense is where we should be hoping for a bigger improvement.

The #2 playmaker? No, he was not even close lol.

By playmaker I mean the ability to create shots for teammates.

I love JV, but he’s not a gifted playmaker at all

Marc gasol beats him in almost all advanced stats I would post the numbers but I’m using my phone. Legit Jv is not even close to him defensively.

Please do not even rmeotely confuse this move for the Kawhi move. That was completely different and all the numbers backed it up. For this trade, let's just say i hope Gasol proves me wrong but we are going to lose rebounding from both JV and Delon as his position and we also just lost our most efficient scorer which we needed for the playoffs. Gasol's old body better still stay healthy, his ability to pass better be in peak form and his defense has to remain elite for this trade to make any sense. I doubt all that happens therefore this trade to me makes no sense!

Also JV was one of our longest tenured raptors, after the DD move, we really aren't showing any loyalty to any of our players. However that aside, for business/basketball reasons this was not an ideal move as well.

You are correct he was no playmaker, meant to say our #2 most valuable for playoffs.
Val was also our toughest/gritiest player during playoffs - you knew he will show up every night (unlike the other softies).
