Eagles\' Rumored Tag-And-Trade Plan For Nick Foles Violates CBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Feb 7, 2019 1:46 pm

The Philadelphia Eagles and Nick Foles are engaging in a contract dance this offseason.

The Eagles exercised a $20 million option on Foles, which prompted the quarterback to give back $2 million to the team in order to void that option.

Rumors indicate that the Eagles now plan to place the franchise tag on Foles with the intent to trade him for a draft pick.

The tag would put Foles under contract for 2019 at $25 million. The Super Bowl LII MVP could make it harder for the Eagles to trade him by stating that he won\'t sign a long-term deal with whatever team he lands with.

In addition, Foles and his agents could challenge the franchise tag. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk points out that the NFL\'s Collective Bargaining Agreement states: \"A Club extending a Required Tender must, for so long as that Tender is extended, have a good faith intention to employ the player receiving the Tender at the Tender compensation level during the upcoming season.\"

Foles could fight the designation and earn his free agency.

What is Foles' plan here?? He paid $2m to decline a $20 option to get more from the Franchise tag, and now wants to fight that? Is he really thinking a team is going to pay him more than $25m this year? It sounds like he's not helping himself at all. I guess he just wants to be a free agent and make his own decision of where he wants to go. I can't blame him. I doubt anybody trades for him under the franchise tag.
SELL THE TEAM, JIM!!! :curse:

Nick Foles didn’t pay 2 million to decline the option to get more from the franchise tag from the Eagles. He did it so he can get a long term contract in free agency as this is possibly his last shot at one with starter money with him coming the hottest part of his career.
What you know about Dirk’s leadership skills is non existent. You don’t have a clue. Your ability to evaluate leadership skills….well you obviously have an overinflated value of your own. Did you take business classes at Marquette?
