I like JV but to me, this is another good deal by Masai.
Gasol brings experience, toughness, passing, a high BBIQ, and winning.
On top of that, he's close with Serge and Scariolo from the coaching staff.
Meanwhile, CJ was trash, Delon was most likely on his way out anyways (UFA), while we were still playing well without JV.

Nah, Jonas isn't an emotional preteen girl like Demar was. You can knock his defense and lack of passing or whatever, but the one thing that JV has is maturity and understanding of the bigger picture of the NBA. He was a consummate team first player who never made waves, never put himself first, never showed that off court distractions were affecting his play, and never showed a side that would post stupid things online. He also isn't the kind of guy to burn bridges on his way out so I would think a return to Toronto down the road would also be possible
I'm sad to see him go, but if we're legit trying to make a title run this year then the trade will help us. He'll get all the minutes he wants in MEM so it's also a chance for him to earn a bigger contract than he might have if he finished the season out here (depending on playoffs also).

Just don't read comments on social media...I saw a casual fan on instagram say this season was over because of this trade..and was worried about the depth, not realizing that there will be buyout players.
I read on general board and Twitter and I saw most of the ppls really like our trade except Raptors fans lol
nah there were a lot of people who simply thought this was a lateral move and to me it is. Let’s see what Gasol truly brings to the table, I expect his passing but he better be avg’ing lkke 7 assists a night because he’ll be a drop when it comes to scoring and rebounding vs JV. Also he needs to make up for what we’re losing with Delon as well because now we are stuck with Fred for defense on guards who will shoot right over him.
There’s another thread on the stat comparison, people just need to look at my first post of this thread for all the stat comparisons, it clearly shows JV is better with almost everything except passing and i’ll admit Marc’s IQ is better but that just evens out the other areas we lose that we got from JV and Delon. At his current age Gasol’s defense has also dropped again see the first post. JV has better defensive metrics. Gasol for defensive player of the year like 7 years ago. That’s a long time ago and he has regressed. If Gasol gets hurt this forum will get thrown into chaos and at age 34 that is certainly a risk. Again even no injury the stats clearly show JV was more productive on a per minute individually. JV was very underrated on this team.

I am unhappy Memphis got such a terrible return.
They are our expansion cousins and we did them dirty.

LMAOO. We will be lucky to finish 6th? The 6th place team is 11 games behind us. There is like 30 games left in the season.
By far the stupusest post ive read in all my years on this forum. Congrats my guy, what an accomplishment.

even at 34 gasol is clearly better than jv. we no longer have to watch jv's clunky ass miss wide open lay ups when he should have dunked. be happy.

Re: Please post if you are UNHAPPY with the GASOL TRADE!
I haven't read through this whole thread, but I just want to say that it's not a zero sum game to be upset JV is gone and be happy that Gasol is here.
You can be upset that JV is gone and still be happy with the trade. It just is what it is. To want JV still on this team does not mean one has to be upset about acquiring Gasol.
This team, on paper, is primed for a deep playoff run. We were before, and we still are. Gasol just gives us more diversity in offense and defense at the C position.
Just like with the Kawhi trade. I was upset to see Demar leave. And wish him, Delon, and JV the best. But i'm happy with the current makeup of the team too.

I’m unhappy not because it’s a bad trade, but because I like JV. It was 7 yrs. I know it’s a business but there’s a human element to this when you watch rookies grow.

Masai did what he had to do. He made a trade to make the team better.cruwinas wrote:TDotAllStar wrote:Use your head
Funny advice advice from the guy who is brain dead.
Raptors will be lucky to finish #6 in the East. Everybody wanted Gaso - Masai delivered. This season first round exit for the Raptors - 1-4.
JV was underperforming for what we were paying him. If he had lived up to the contract, maybe he would still be here.
At least he may get more shots on the Grizz so you should be happy.

If JV was "underperforming" the Grizzlies would have never accepted this trade. He had a role and he did it well

This kind of logical, calm, rational thinking has no place on this board.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Memphis plays a slower tempo than the Raptors, so we should, theoretically, expect to see an improvement in his numbers and contribution. Most likely, Memphis will attempt to keep JV in a role similar to what Gasol provided with a slow shift away to a faster pace as the season progresses.

This trade was always about the playoffs. We've now seen Gasol look very impressive vs both the Magic and the Sixers. He fits in so well with the team and you can see it in the advanced stats and using the eye test.

We have a very thin squad now so I expect there to be more pickups in the next month on the buyout market, so it will be easier to evaluate in a few weeks.
This is a "I give up on this team" type of move from Masai. You throw some **** against the wall and hope it sticks, and if it doesn't work, everyone just walks away and you start from scratch. This team is being blown up around trade deadline next season.
At this stage in their careers, JV is the best asset in this trade.
oh boy

I'm still waiting to see the "lateral move at best" posters say something about Gasol now. He's shutting down opposing centers no problem and showing his defensive player of the year pedigree, while being a playmaking big man and a 3 point shooting threat on very effecient numbers.
The amount of unreasonable hate he was getting the whole RS since the trade deadline, and now its just crickets.
