Pick your free agent PG

Post#1 » by panthermark » Mon Feb 11, 2019 5:53 pm

This is a list of mid-tier PG's available.
I left Kyrie and Kemba off the list because....like Pax said....let's be realistic.

You can pick two. I did add Brogdon...although with all of the teams having massive cap space, I think we will get out bid and Milwaukee will be forced to pay through the nose or let him walk.

Right now I'm leaning Rubio #1....followed by maybe Teague if he opts out. I think Rubio is the most gifted passer of the group...maybe Dunn could learn a thing or two from the bench.

Why are we trying to be average?

Tank until we have an actual core and a legit star to build around. No need for role players. Dunn is our PG until we find a better PG via the draft or a young PG to replace him.

How does a 32 year old PG help us longterm?

We won't make the playoffs with or without Collison so why add him?

Collision. I want a cheap veteran who can shoot, run the team, and mentor either Dunn or morant depending on how the draft goes.

It's been discussed ad nauseam but you bring in a vet PG to help the development of our young bigs and run a good offense.

Players develop better when they play within an organized framework, and when they have success. Collison can help organize the offense, make the right passes, and open the floor for Lauri and WCJ down low.

Not terribly interested in any of these options tbh. I guess Rubio would be interesting, but his scoring ability is almost a liability

Brogden is intriguing, but he's not exactly a pass first PG that is playmaking. Not the best class for PG's

Could roll the dice on a Conley trade, though -- he'd be interesting if had for cheap. Think he only has 2 years left on his deal which lines up with Porter

Because contracts and culture don't work that way.

So you want to tank until we find a PG in the draft or a legit star? That could be years from now. You think any of are current core will still be here? Do you think any GOOD player wants to play on a team that is going to tank every year until that team finds a draft pick good enough to REPLACE the player that was there?

If you have not noticed, the process already in motion.

If Dragic is healthy, he's be really interesting. But I doubt that he's available.

Honestly, it will depend a lot on the draft and what the goal is.

This is why I was hoping Dunn would get traded to a contender so we could really see what he is.

People fell in love with Scary Terry Rozier after he upped his game in the playoffs last year.
Dunn is a bigger and better player.

Let someone else overpay Scary Terry and the rest of those guys.

Brogdon is the only one on that list better and younger than Dunn.
But he's gonna make bank after MIL season and I doubt avail.

a 6 foot 32yr old Darren Collison for 6-10mil per?
No thanks

I feel bad CHA has to pay Kemba.

I feel real bad IT never got paid :nonono:

Someone who can do good job, but wont interfere with core taking next step for sake of his own stats. And help them reach their own potential. Still run what coach asks him. That's what good vet is. That's what Purdue talked about in that reddit interview.

I voted Darren Collison but it's basically a tie between him and Rubio. I went with Collison cause I felt he would better understand and accept that his role is to push Dunn than Rubio would.

Brogdon I just can't see happening but that would be awesome.

Tank was over the minute we traded for otto porter and his huge contract. At that point you have a small window to build something significant with lauri and Lavine and porter and whoever we pick up in the draft this year, because soon lauri deal is due, and we need something great in place before then, to take advantage of the fact he on his rookie deal. Once he gets his big deal we won't have much room to sign anyone and we would then have to try and trade big contracts or have lauri and no one else here on the roster. And for the sake of earnings you just can't be that bad that long.

We can field a pretty good team next season, not a title contender, but a great core that may grow to a title contender. There are guys out there who fill our needs and we getting a high draft pick plus have pieces already in place. We can be in a good place if we make the proper changes

brogdon averages less than 5 assists per 36 minutes. he's not a good passer and not the guy we need next to porter/lauri/carter

derrick rose is basically a shooting guard at this point too
