Sure, but then they don't investigate the annoying grandpa Pop for what he has said multiple times about the Lakers

Re: NBA investigating Lakers for contact with Ben Simmons
Here's the full context:
Looks like Simmons contacted Lakers and Pelinka called Elton Brand to clear it up, for once Pelinka is on the right side of things.
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/25974240/sixers-gm-elton-brand-closes-door-magic-johnson-tutoring-ben-simmons
"[Lakers general manager] Rob Pelinka called me and said 'Hey, we're hearing Ben wants to talk to Hall of Famers, championship-level players, and Magic is on the list. We need authorization for him to meet up.' And I said 'No.' This is over a month ago, so I said no," Brand explained.
"[Simmons] reached out to me, not to me directly, to the Lakers to find out if we can get together this summer," said Johnson, who was an oversized point guard like Simmons is. "I said, 'Hey, you got to clear it with the league,' and if everybody -- the Sixers sign off, we sign off, the league sign off -- fine, I will do that. But if everybody doesn't sign off, then we can't get together."

Re: NBA investigating Lakers for contact with Ben Simmons
I think it's ironic that the day after the trade deadline, stories started coming out that the Sixers/Pels had discussed an AD/Simmons swap... The reason that seems weird to me, is that no way would Klutch help that happen.
I wondered if NOP leaked it to let everyone know they could get more for AD, and to also send a message to Klutch about how much clout they really had...
Or did Klutch leak it to let everyone know simmons was not a sure thing to stay in Phily? Maybe this whole thing is like phase 2.

It is seriously amazing how the Lakers are treated in this league.

Re: NBA investigating Lakers for contact with Ben Simmons
“Rob Pelinka called me and said that Ben wanted to talk to Hall of Famers after the season, Magic was on the list,” Brand said. “He asked for authorization … I said no. This was over a month ago.”
A person familiar with the phone call disputed that characterization, saying Allen Lumpkin, the 76ers’ director of basketball administration, called the Lakers to request that meeting for Simmons. Among Lumpkin’s responsibilities is player development.
Pelinka, the Lakers general manager, called Brand to tell him about the request and that it made the Lakers uncomfortable, the person said.

This sounds even better from a Lakers perspective.

We can agree on that. Surely the last time the league allows a star players lackey to become an agent.

You know how to get the league office and every teams wet their pants??? Just mention and/or associate the word "Lakers" when talking about any of their players and watch them go buck wild.

We'll see how this goes, but if we get fined, the new strategy might be to have your player call up Magic out of the blue and then tweet about it...

Doubt the Lakers would be fine for this, but wouldn't surprise me at all if there will be one. If a couple of wink wink on a late night talk show got the Lakers a $50,000 and $500,000 for talking to PG's agent, this is right in the realm of Adam Silver's bald head of fines! And yeah, the Lakers' front office might as well sit around twirling thumbs and wait for agents/players to call. The league, IMO, seems to forget that the NBA is a business. It's a business involving human/people assets with names. When there are discussions among teams and players, of course names are mentioned and thrown out for media and fans consumption.

i'm glad it looks like we won't be penalized, but Magics over explanation without prompting still shows he lacks savvy.
