Every wing in this draft is extremely flawed, I think Garland might actually be our best bet. He can be insurance if Fultz doesn't pan out or they can play together

Well, let’s be clear here. Garland is extremely flawed as well.
Donavan Mitchell is an example I like to bring up a lot. Along with not being a teenager (which matters to scouts more than it should), he fell because of his size versus PG skills ... or lack thereof. Mitchell struggled mightily in the playoffs last year when forced to play PG and Utah even made strong offers to secure a true PG at the deadline (Mike Conley). Clearly Mitchell was “extremely flawed” coming out of college and has not been able to correct those flaws.
... does that mean Mitchell isn’t a great player for the Jazz? Absolutely not.
So yes, all of these players have their flaws. That doesn’t mean there isn’t at least on who Good vs. Bad sheet won’t mesh well with our roster or the NBA game in general.

Garland's game is much smoother, he has better handles, and he's a better distributer. Shooting, defense, and rebounding is a wash. And Garland creates more mismatches.

The names on this list are all completely unlikely seeing as, for some reason, we are pushing hard for the playoffs. You need to change out the Darius Garlands and Cam Reddishs of the world for the Ted Dundersnatches and Chet Chesterfields of the world. (Spoiler: those last two aren't real names)

Pushing for the playoffs doesn't mean they're getting in though.
If they don't make the playoffs, they'll be drafting no worse than 10th or 11th and more likely like 8th.

Magic should go BPA although a swing or even a point guard would be a good thing even with Fultz.

If we do make it into the playoff (WOOHOOOOOOO!) I'm targeting a player like Kevin Porter.... a player who's fallen because of off court issues and recent step back in play since he's returned. The guy just has this knack with the ball. Really reminds me of harden.... more hair on the head than on his chin. lol

Statements like this from Jeremy Woo are why I'm glad we are going for playoffs now that we have Fultz.
https://www.si.com/nba/2019/02/12/nba-draft-big-board-2019-zion-williamson-rj-barrett-ja-morant
"The shape of the 2019 draft remains somewhat uncertain at this stage, given that beyond the top three or four players, there’s a less-pointed talent gap than in recent years, one that has been somewhat aided by injury and a number of the projected top freshmen all slumping. Apart from Zion Williamson, and to a lesser extent Ja Morant and R.J. Barrett, there aren’t many players inspiring a great deal of confidence. At the end of the day, teams have to use their draft picks on somebody, and so parsing through the pack and evaluating on a team-specific basis will be even more crucial than usual in a year where “best available” might be more of a relative designation. There’s still a good deal of talent on this board, particularly in terms of guys who could become quality role players, and so writing it off as an expressly bad class would be premature. As college basketball’s platform increases, prospects always set themselves apart."
I think someone like NICKEIL ALEXANDER-WALKER has just as good of a chance being good as whoever we'd pick at #6 now that we've got a young PG.

I think moreso than ever, watching March Madness will be important for these players. Not only for these players to distinguish themselves from the rest of the pack but also for the Magic to find someone with more of an alpha mentality. None of our younger guys right now have that alpha in them (Evan is really our only guy who does) and we're gonna need some fiery attitude in our young core (Fultz, Isaac, Gordon, Bamba).

Re: 2018/2019 NBA draft talk: Who should be our target? (Poll)
Picking 10th seems likely if we don't make the playoffs. I wish we could stay put at 6th or 7th which imo has a really great shot at being a top 4 where we can grab a game changer to go along with our group. But for 10th...we better make the playoffs as the difference between 10 and 16 is usually not a big deal. I will take the experience if that is the case and it will be better to live with if 6 or 7 worst ends with a top 4.Knightro wrote:Ducklett wrote:The names on this list are all completely unlikely seeing as, for some reason, we are pushing hard for the playoffs. If the Magic i) make the playoffs this year and ii) resign Vučević, would you support the pick simply being traded for PF depth?
That is Orlando's greatest apparent need going in to next season.
A guy like Noah Vonleh or Thaddeus Young could make more sense that the 15th pick in the draft. Thoughts?
..

IMO the Magic only need PF depth if they move one of Gordon or Isaac. If they keep both of them going into next year, I think they're fine there.
But even if they do move one of them, I'd rather just keep the 1st round pick and draft the best player on the board and use the MLE to round out depth at the PF position.

Drsd,
I pretty much agree with Knightro.
Let me add I'd keep pick regardless as it is a cheap salary and the good teams draft well. Even though they say this draft is weak, I think The Magic can get a solid player.

We need to draft a wing or a PG, no need at all to draft a frontcourt player (barring any trades).

Reddish all the way. That's who the Magic need to pair with Fultz.

Reddish would be great. He really starting to put it together. Sadly we wont be in range for himNemesis21 wrote:Reddish all the way. That's who the Magic need to pair with Fultz.

The Magic will need a combo forward and a backup PF going in to next off season. Whether those are the most pressing needs is debatable, but they are needs nevertheless.

One or both will miss 6+ games next year. Plus there is a need for a 6-10 mpg 3rd stringer for ~40 games, even if both played all 82 games.
The Magic need an upgrade over Martin.

We shouldn't waste a 1st round pick (even if it's mid) to get a 3rd stringer that people will complain that isn't getting PT enough. We should use this pick in a position that we really need someone, IMO.
