I hate that these types of threads always turn into an argument over what constitutes a bust. Whatever you want to call him, we can all agree that Wiggins is not a good NBA player and was not worthy of the top pick.

What if WIggins had just been injured the last 5 years but still got paid the same salary. Would the Wolves have won more or less games just distributing his minutes to bench players? The fact that I don’t know the answer to that question means he’s a bust IMO.

I won't be surprised if he struggles to be a rotation player after this contract is up.

Look at Bennet, Thabeet, Vesley, Bender, and other top 10 picks who aren't even in the league anymore. They're not in the same category as Wiggins.
But that should depend on expectations. Obviously there was a huge difference in what was expected from those guys vs. Wiggins. I mean if Wiggins as a general consensus #1 pick in his draft is a borderline top 100 NBA player, you don't think that's a bust?
Yeah but he wasn't the consensus #1. Embiid was going to be the first pick before the injury and Philly still took him 3rd overall. Wiggins and Parker were neck and neck for the #1 after that. And if you want to call Wiggins a bust, then why are we not talking about Parker? How many teams has he been on now.
Put money out of the picture, and look at the overall body of work, games actually PLAYED, and age, I think he still has time to grow into a better player. He's only 23 soon to be 24, how many players are in there prime at that age. Hell the pressure we put on 19 year olds now is ridiculous. I remember players stayed in college longer and looked better doing it. He's missed 3 games his entire career including the last 2, is playing improved D this year, and is working on his overall game.
His motor is his biggest enemy.
There isn't a law that top players must enter the NBA after 1 year of college. I mean Brandon Roy stayed 4 years and it improved his game drastically because of it. While I am all for any player that feels he is ready to contribute at a high level going into the draft as soon as possible I think plenty of players would benefit from 4 years in college.
I do find it a tad amusing though that NCAA football players are more likely to stay in college for 4 years, but in the NBA it is becoming a rarity these days.

Hes starting based on draft position, “potential”, and the Wolves not wanting to admit their mistake. It’s certainly not based on his performance. I think the Wolves may be better off with him out of the rotation altogether than playing his current minutes.

i think until he loses his athleticism, and he's still the same player by that time, ya. but as long as he has that, people will be willing to take a chance on him.

*Kanye voice* Andrew Wiggins doesn't care about basketball.... People hoping he'll somehow take a leap forward are delusional. He has all the tools, but he just doesn't enjoy the game enough to want to be good.

He has not improved one iota during his time in the NBA. Dude's got to shoulder some of the fault there.
So you wouldn't take a career avg 20 pts a game, if Wiggins were making 10 mil a year he would be a steal but now he's a bust, lol. he's just overpaid.
He wouldn’t be a steal at 10 million though. He’s been bad every year of his career. Lots of guys could average 20 points a game if they were given his quantity of shots. Most aren’t given the opportunity to do it so poorly and inefficiently though because they’re not #1 picks. And he’s not a rebounder, doesn’t create assists, is a terrible defender, etc. Literally his only skill is inefficient volume scoring.
Purely statistically, he’s been a fringe bench player in his career so far. He’s athletic and is still young enough to pretend he has potential though.

He is starting because he is young, athletic, has potential, and is being paid a huge contract so cannot be benched. He is not starting because he is making starter impact on the court.

Hell yess. He was hyped as the next great player. I remember a note, on his first practice in college, a trainer saying "he's like an human videogame". He was the 1 pick.
5 years later he's nothing but an innefcient chucker, who plays no defense, doesn't pass, no intangibles, an average player at best.
For sure he's a bust.

he is literally a jumpshot away from being a combo between JRich and Corey Magette. I don't think he's gonna get there though.

Kwame Brown eventually carved out a role as a low usage guy who played some defense.
The simple fact that he was low usage made him better than Wiggins, who actively hurts his team by being on the court at all times, and hurts it more the more often he touches the ball.

He's awful. If he were on the Bucks, even at a minimum salary, I wouldn't want him in the rotation. He'd be fighting for occasional backup wing minutes with Pat Connaughton, and he'd be losing that battle because Connaughton actually plays really hard and plays smart basketball. Connaughton can't shoot this season and doesn't have an off the dribble game, but he's still much more likely to have a positive impact than a guy like Wiggins.
