Born in Europe, raised in Astoria Queens

I remember quarter water, back when a dollar got you far. Could get quarter water, chips and a couple rounds at the arcade. The joy of turning nickels and dimes into quarters and getting a run in at the arcade. We use to live at the bodega, all the essentials were right there (snacks, drinks and video games)

Yup remember manhunt and freeze tag and stick ball. We used to get down on the handball courts too, feels like they don't really play handball much outside of NYC. We used to hoop on the monkey bars because we could dunk on them.

Steinway street was the spot after school. Comic book store where they had basketball cards. Collected those and we use to trade them in school. Still got a binder of cards somewhere.

Jimmy Jazz, Model's, Dr. Js, Popaya King hot dogs, Pizza spots, Italian icy's , nobody beats the Wiz and the music store across the street that had the latest cassette singles.

Remember the movie theater on Steinway before they turned into a CVS or some shyt.

Haven't lived in NYC for over a decade now but man so many memories growing up there

this topic always pops up in different forms and just serves as a reminder that i'm the most NYC because I was pushed outta my neighborhood by hipsters. Sorry 5 boroughs next stop for Blockwatcher is a farm in Pennsylvania not Penn station. When I eat dinner im going farm to table not out of a truck with a label.

It's a little sad that all the old neighborhoods have changed. I pass Steinway Street every day in the subway going to and from work, but I never stop there. I live in a nice place in Jamaica, but it's not really a complete neighborhood. I need to go to Elmhurst for Pizza, Flushing for Chinese restaurants, Jackson Heights for Italian ices, etc. Sadly, I had to go to Brooklyn the last time I saw the Knicks play. LOL. But we have some great Dominican restaurants here, and the Indian food is great.

My wife and I have made it a goal to walk everywhere in Jamaica, so we've walked down as far as JFK airport. We've walked to almost every neighborhood in Jamaica, but not on every street. We want to do that. I don't know if neighborhoods are still better for kids because they don't travel as much, or if kids are more mobile. My kids live in Manhattan and seem to go everywhere. Things change.
