Yeah but did you learn that from watching “yo mtv raps” or “the box?” My mom was pissssed when she got the phone bill.
I learned it from having the tape...
The Box was a good time. And that video was lit, as the kids say. VA beach bikini spring break.
I may not be NYC enough for this thread because I was born/raised 212, but my first tape was a bootleg single of Young MC “Bust a Move” purchased from an African dude selling tapes off a blanket on 86th and Lex. The same gentleman also sold me the first hardcore porn VHS I’d ever seen, but I’d been pretty desensitized from Robyn Bird and Al Goldstein of channel J (then channel 23, then finally channel 35).
My idea of a balanced diet was washing down my dirty water dog with a Welch’s grape or Sunkist. Fanta if I was feeling fancy.
I once won a call-in Knicks trivia contest on Channel 1’s midnight sports show (can’t remember the name), and they sent me to f*cking Chicago to watch game 2 of the ‘92 playoffs at the old Chicago arena and stay in the same hotel as the Knicks. I saw Ewing in the lobby and he refused to sign an autograph or even take a picture. I shared an elevator with Oak the night before the game (a Sunday matinee), and he had a white girl on each arm (the knicks lost, Jordan scored 52).
Also fun fact: 90% of all phone numbers I have memorized right now are landlines beginning in 212 or 718 from the years 1984-1996.
Can I get a ticket to this game?
