Trade Dealine + All Star Game

Post#1 » by Billl » Tue Feb 19, 2019 3:19 pm

It's dead here, so I thought I'd just toss this out there.

The league made a bad choice moving the trade deadline up. This used to be a fun time of year for basketball junkies even though there were no real games played. Now? Who wants to talk about the all-star game? It's mildly entertaining to watch, but then you get a big dead break where nothing is happening.

Not sure why they did that other then trying to avoid another Cousins situation where he got traded at the AllStar game and didn’t know where to go after everyone was leaving lol

I think they did it more for the players and for the event. Without trades to talk about, there is nothing to talk about except all star weekend.

Except nobody is talking about all-star weekend. After you say "Hey, did you see that guy jump over shaq?" that's pretty much it.

All Star weekend is useless nowadays. No defense, no interest from players to be competitive.

At least trade deadline is interesting to follow.

Yeah, this is why they did it I think. Personally, I think it was a very logical move for this reason. Sure, it makes allstar weekend less exciting but it's a smart move.

I think all star weekend is useless either way, and the trade deadline is interesting either way.

I don't think it really makes a difference whether they're around the same time or not.

I was going to say this too. I don't care about allstar weekend and haven't watched it in like 5 years. The trade deadline is infinitely more exciting regardless of when it occurs.

It's always been that way. Players don't want to get injured and don't want mileage on their legs when they should be resting. The game is for offense entertainment and they did their best playing around. No reason to play defense except in the 4th quarter. Even then, it's not a big deal.

I agree that it's something the players wanted. No one gets traded during the All Star break, and their midseason vacation is more relaxing without potential trades hanging over their heads.
