What is next for us?

Post#1 » by WuriderX » Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:04 pm

1. Does the rise of Huerter play a role in our draft plans? How does he compare to RJ Barrett and Cam Reddish?
2. If we don't get the first pick do we trade down?
3. What center can we draft/sign that will compliment John Collins?
4. IS this the kind of draft where the best player maybe someone off of the radar since this is considered to be a weak draft? i am not sold on Zion like most.
5. Will we spend money this offseason?

1. take best player available
2. i wouldn't trade down. I'd try to trade up
3. i don't know. Make a run at Thomas Bryant??
4. I'm sold on Zion.
5. I think we will. It won't be a ton but i think we'll make moves to start winning.

1. Nah, still take BPA. It's still possible Heurt is better off the bench. We don't know yet.
2. Never trade down unless you got a sucka on the line like BOS had with PHI.
3. macd has been copying off my paper. I said Bryant weeks ago. Shame on you, macd. In the draft? The MD kid, Bruno or Gafford.
4. I think so. Williamson could just be another Blake Griffin-type minus the playmaking. He's becoming overrated to the point where folks are blatantly ignoring his flaws.
5. Not unless it's smart-money. Beware of guys like Middleton and Jimi Butler who're looking to get (over)paid but aren't as impactful (for our scenario) as it seems.

1. BPA
2. Nope.
3. IMO, it's too early to be looking at who "fits" per se. If anything, though... I'm looking less at the frontcourt and far more concerned about wing compliments (and their perimeter/midrange scoring).
4. Everything is off the table if we get the #1 spot. I'm sold on Zion.

I don't know if Zion will be a superstar or not but 22/9 is no joke and he's playing with 2 other lottery picks. If we have the chance we can't NOT take him.

1) My thinking is "very good 6th Man" on Huerter. Gotta go BPA: Zion, RJ, Ja, Cam, Rui, whoever's still on the board snatch him.
2) I'd only trade down if we could get a desperate GM (The Magics?) to cough up 2 lottery picks in return for Ja Morant.
3) Fernando, Bol, Hayes, Porter, Gafford, Bassey, Bitadze, some pretty good prospects available. Bryant is intriguing option.
4) Zion fo' real.
5) Only on the perfect piece, not spending just to be spending.

1. BPA who fits. Reddish, Hunter, etc.
2. No one really has the value needed. We have the best trade assets in the draft.
3. Draft/Sign/Trade yes. I'll lean to trade or sign as I am not confident in the bigs in this class outside of Zion and Rui who isn't on my board for the Hawks due to John presence. All of them aren't ready to step on the court. I don't see one that's day 1 next year.
4. Naw, its Zion. But outside of Zion, R.J. and Ja got AS potential and they aren't too far at this stage.
5. Yes, either on trades or signings.

This is a very deep center class, I wouldn't mind trying to draft a 5 in the 2nd round or move up to the late 1st for someone.

I would prefer to draft two wings. SFs or SG and SF. I rather move up for a center with our 2nd rounders.

1. BPA
2. Depends on where we get slotted if not #1. If we are at #2 amd can move to #4 and get our target and pick up and 2020 1st, sure why not. If we end at 5, I think we pick at 5.
3. Not my area of expertise.
4. Zion seems to be at the top o' the heap.
5. We'll spend, just not how some may like. With $40 mil plus in capspace, I still see us taking a bad contract for 1sts.
I would like to believe a top end FA would give us a look but I'm not there yet and I don't think the team is yet. The Hawks a building their brand.

What's next for us?

Patience. Lots of waiting and patience.

Draft smart. Acquire more future assets.

Focus on the development of Trae, Collins and the two lottery selections.

Bide our time. No need to go heavy shopping this summer in Free Agency. It'll be a seller's market in favor of the players. (60% of players can be Free Agents?!?)

So let's wait it out.

"Not your area of expertise"? Shiiiii, when's that ever stopped us from commenting? 8-)

Another thing to look forward to is free agents using our capspace to try to trick other teams into overpaying.

I would ideally like to sign or trade for a major vet guy.

1) BPA... Huerter is only 1 wing most likely a guard long term. The Duke boys can play the 3
2) Depends on the offer. Same offer as last year, heck yeah
3) Someone with length and Athleticism
4) It is a possibility and I'm not sold on Zion either but you have to take Zion at 1 unless some sorry team blows you out of the water with 2 unprotected future 1st in addition to a lottery pick this year.
5) No.

1. Probably not. If there’s a guy there that could be a star at SG I think we would still draft him.

2. Nah. Guys trading back almost never win trades. The best players typically go the highest with a few exceptions of course.

3. rim protector that can shoot the 3, attack the close out, and pass.

4. Yes!! I said it first. DeAndre Hunter is going to shoot up thr draft boards after the Tourney. He’s climbed up my list to #4 or #5.

5. For a top FA

Every team in the league will take Zion Williams with the first overall pick. Deandre Ayton was a sure first overall pick a week or two when the off-season begun. Zion is a sure thing right now and it's only February.

Lebron James dominated high school ball like any NBA superstar does. Zion is doing it against College players and hasn't shown any signs of struggles. Lebron probably would have done the same.

1. No. We need multiple wings so if a wing is the best guy on the board you take him. The top wings look like guys who could pair nicely with Huerter.

2. Depends on who is on the board and what is offered in trade. In general, I think trading down works pretty well in the NFL but not so much in the NBA. Particular circumstances can override that general rule.

3. I think Collins could mesh with a couple different types of players but it is hard to envision a successful front court pairing where the other guy isn't a good defender.

4. I think Zion is a no brainer at 1. For whether we go off the radar, I think that depends where our pick falls and who is on the board. If we have the #2 pick and don't trade down, for example, I seriously doubt anyone we pick would be "off the radar." Conversely, I could see that happening if we end up with the 8th pick.

5. I doubt we go all-in but if we want to make the playoffs next year maybe we make a big push. So I think it is possible if unlikely.

1. Huerter could be starting 2 or 3 or 6th man.
2. No trading down that’s only NFL.
3. Somebody cheap and on short deal.Stay flexible.
4. Zion Zion Zion He’s the best.
5. No. Keep it flexible moving forward.

Zion is the real deal. We have to keep building. Our time is in 2 years.

Im rooting for you guys. I expect you guys to be next years Kings, surprise everyone and get in the playoffs as one of the 6-8 seeds. Collins is a beast, Trae and Huerter surprised me. Add in a few more lotto picks, a couple nice Bjelica/Shump type players and you are right there.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
