Dumb thread. Last we need is more negativity around here. As if we don't already overly crap on our players... :banghead:

We got rid of these threads when the Magic were clearly tanking. It didn’t make sense at that time. These threads were a staple when I first joined and were a fun complement to the sweater vest threads.

I’ll turn it into an impromptu survey.

If anyone wants the old Dunce Cap Threads to come back, let it be known in the thread with a +1 to this comment or reply. If you’d rather it stay in the shed, give OrlandO a +1 or reply here. We’ll go with the majority.

The return of this thread means that this team is emerging into a respectable team and we should hold them accountable to that. Now, the mean and nasty comments that can be had with this type of thread can go away. If we stay focus on the game itself without bashing the players or coaching staff, I am all for it.

+1

This thread has always been a nice contrast when we were playing important games and lost. As long as we give out valid reasons on who you voted for and why without pushing an agenda to openly bash the team, players, etc, then I see no problem with this thread. I always found it intriguing to see other people's perspective on why the game was lost and this is somewhere we can talk about that. The game threads even in our wins have turned negative as well so it is festering everywhere. It has been said ad nauseam but until the Magic prove they are consistent winners, the negativity is going to continue to fester.

Well said.

This is exactly what this thread should be about and nothing more.

They were a fun compliment to vest threads because we had a winning team and the board wasn't overrun with a bunch of debbie downers. Good luck opening this can of worms...

As for this game, personally I went with AG. I was very disappointed with his shot selection especially in the 1st half. His 3 blocks were definitely impressive but the perimeter defense was definitely lacking tonight (he was not the only one who was terrible on that end). His FT shooting was very subpar (a team theme yet again). That foul on Lauri was back breaking and ended up being the reason we lost.

Isaac would be 2nd on the list as he had miscommunications on defense all night and was extremely passive on offense. I don't feel Evan should be a voting option as he played well tonight.

I went with AG, but those 2 free throws from DJ are still traumatizing. 87% free throw shooter :nonono:

I don't recall seeing many "nasty" comments directed towards our players on this forum. Maybe towards Alex Martins/ownership, but not the players. It's not "nasty" to criticize your players and expect better, or to think of what went wrong in certain situations, or ponder what we could have done differently or how we could learn from those mistakes in the future.

Nasty comments are comments that involve a players family, ethnicity, religion, etc. No sensible fan would make personal insults like that, only trolls, and I'm sure any comment like that is removed quickly by mods. I don't see people on here making those types of comments, ever. If they did, of course those type of comments shouldn't be tolerated. What I see are "debbie-downers," who are constantly down and rag on the players/team because over the last 6-7 years we've had literally almost nothing to cheer about. Have constantly missed the playoffs, made bad decisions, and ran by incompetent ownership who seemingly could care less about re-establishing a winning culture with playoff expectations.

There's nothing wrong with that. Don't forget that this team makes a lot of money from all of us... we all pay money to go to the games, we spend money on jerseys, shirts and hoodies. It's a big investment for many of us, and we absolutely deserve to vent and call out players (or coaches) who aren't performing well, because its the players and coaches who play and coach after all. If you live in Orlando then you should know first-hand how often our team is ridiculed in our own city by bandwagon Lakers, Heat, etc, fans.

Things may be all peachy to you, but mean comments should be expected on a sports forum and are acceptable so long as they are not disrespectful on a personal level. AG played like crap tonight, and I would love to ship him off in the off-season for the best package of assets possible, but that doesn't mean I have anything personal against AG, he simply plays for my favorite team. I'm sorry that you may find that mean, but I and many other fans want my favorite team to win and make a playoff run over anything else. IF they aren't doing that, criticism/trade comments should be expected.

Nasty and mean comments by bashing the players or coaching staff. We know the difference. It is one thing to critize, another to humiliate.

I see why people would be mad at this thread, but it’s more of a higher expectations thing, rather than a scathing indictment of any particular player.

That being said, I still don’t believe this is a roster capable of competing at the next level. You can’t lose to a team like Chicago with a fully healthy roster and expect merely appearing in the playoffs to be a grand achievement. This team needs more talent.

No one deserves a dunce cap. This roster is inherently flawed.

I try to be positive and let people hope for a playoff spot, but it’s hard for me to personally see it. The issue with the Magic has been losing to the teams they should have a good chance against. They always play up to the level of competition and give a great 20-36-46-or-48 minutes against anyone, no matter how elite or how much of a powerhouse they are, even winning them sometimes.. but then when it comes to these 4 game stretches against these sub-.500 teams, they go 2-2 or 1-4. These stretches during the course of the season where we see/hope ORL can recover back near .500, but it always backfires. They just don’t wake up or respond strongly enough to a game that’s favored to them. In sum, there are zero games where the Magic are favored to win, for me. And if they nab a playoff spot, it will be all the more impressive they did it.

Man, even if i overlook foul on Lauri at the end, Gordon had airball FT, took some terrible shots in first half.

In hindsight Clifford made mistake for switching Vuc in and out for defense, as Lopez got rebound.

Isaac had poor game overall.

Don't think Evan or DJ did anything bad. Evan was only reason why Magic were in position to win, with clutch 3. Dj 14 points on 9 shots.

But dear Lord free throws. So Evan and bench made 10 of 12.

Vuc, Isaac, Gordon and DJ 3 -12. Piss poor.

There were 11 missed Magic FTs. Gordon led the team with 3 missed FTs. He "earned" his dunce cap at both ends of the floor.

Eleven missed FTs. !!!!!!

That can has never been sealed in the first place, there's nothing to open.

Bringing regular Dunce cap threads up again is a reason for small celebration, actually. Not only it symbolizes we're playing to win again, after 7 years in purgatory, but it also localizes criticism putting it into appropriate context of one particular game AND provides less subjetive aggregate data on how players/coach performed during the season for those positive/negative discussions in hindsight.
