MJ won’t draft a Dukie as a face of the franchise for the uncHornets.

As evidenced by all these UNC guys he's drafted.

I thought this take had died. Guess not.

Signed Marvin Williams (unc) and Marcus Paige (unc), drafted Hairston (unc).

Let a key cog McBob (Duke, even though Duke fans don't claim him) walk.

Jettisoned Hendo (Duke) and Plumlee (Duke).

Drafted Frank over Winslow (Duke).

Drafted Frank Jackson (Duke) and traded him immediately.

Even two years ago when we were playing the Magic and Duke and unc were playing each other in the ACCT showed two updates on the big scoreboard once when unc was up 10+ in the first half and another time when unc was up by 17 with 10 minutes left in that game, me and my budddy were checking our phones and Duke went on a helluva run but no updates and Duke actually won the game and you guessed it, no more updates from the Hornets but that's alright because everyone in our section knew Duke came back and took the lead and pulled away and started a Let's Go Devils chant! It was Great!

It's not a take at all, the evidence is damning!

You're trying REALLY HARD there dude. So MJ doesn't get any credit for acquiring Hendo and McBob, but trading / not retaining them is evidence he won't acquire Duke players? Doesn't quite check out.

Either MJ is really a UConn and UK homer, or this is a stupid take.

Not trying hard at all, McBob’s Heat offer could have easily been matched. Hendo was shipped out in the deal for Batum who has underperformed to say the least, Winslow is balling out at three different positions for Miami. I’ll give you that Plumlee’s albatross contract had to go but Frank Jackson is getting more time for the dumpster fire Pelicans and looking better and better. We could have had three impact players with a chance at a fourth in Jackson but we are stuck with overpaid Marvin Williams and Batum and MJ’s boy in the G League.

You might talk me into MJ having a slight UNC bias based on the Hairston pick and guys like Marcus Paige getting a look, but I don't buy that he's anti-Duke. Hendo was the borderline face of the franchise in the dark days (shudder) before Big Al showed up and Kemba dramatically improved. Frank over Winslow was all about MKG imo, and I was distraught we passed on him at the time.

To be honest I doubt MJ gives a **** about Duke. Duke was trash (relative to now) when he was actually playing, the rivalry was nowhere near where it is today. MJ probably enjoys talking **** to Duke fans when UNC wins but he doesn't have the history of even someone like Jamison, Felton or Hansborough who were judged by the UNC fan base in large part by how they performed in just those two matchups every year plus the NCAA tourney. It was a different reality in the 80s, worlds apart.

I'm disappointed no one has mentioned Sean May yet.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

Running tally of record post all star break:

1-1 with one loss at home to a team we are in the race with. Brutal. Next up: Golden State and Houston (so 1-4) before we get to go play the Nets on the road. Also Detroit moved ahead of us tonight. Let the free fall to Zion begin!

We have the 3rd hardest schedule from here until seasons end.

Like I said back in Dec - we had to be comfortably above .500 by the end of Jan.

And we weren’t.

All of those close losses and losses to the bottom feeders early in the season will end up the main reasons we miss the playoffs. This team just isn’t built for clutch and it’s mentally fragile - as demonstrated by our horrid road record.

But what do you expect. Same core as the last two years.

Sad part is this team does defend hard for stretches and when that happens they look good. They just don’t sustain it and usually coast to start games. It’s why we either have to come back from double deficits or blow big leads. We let up.
