Zambrano finally signed to extension

CHICAGO -- Chicago Cubs right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano isn't going anywhere.

Zambrano has signed a five-year contract extension valued at $90 million, ESPN Radio 1000 is reporting.

Zambrano and the Cubs have been negotiating since the beginning of the season, but the impending sale of the team by the Tribune Company put the deal on hold. Zambrano has had a solid season, and the value of the deal is approximate $10 million more than it would have been in April.

Yeah, seriously, guys you need to work on your math. I don't really think that the Red Sox and Yankees fans should be upset about this though like at all. He would be what the 5th best starter on both teams next year. Zambrano has only been the 3rd best pitcher on his own team this year, and I think he's a little overrated. That being said Cubs fans love him and he is better than Zito who got even a bigger deal.

We have no one in our farm system ready to take a starting role and he would've been by far the best pitcher on the market. It's a big contract, but the Cubs really didn't have a choice.

The Yankees and Red Sox never made sense to me. They have good enough prospects to take rotation spots and Z's more valuable in the NL being the best hitting pitcher. I was more worried about the Mets.

Apologies? Hell I'm jumping up and down with you on this one. I was terrified that the Yankees might seriously offer this guy $15 mil a year, although I wish he did hit the market and ended up in Boston. Oh well.

I really don't think the Yankees would have even persued him too hard. The whole point of the Yanks holding onto all the top pitching prospects is so that they aren't forced into paying big money for any free agent pitchers, because that hasn't worked for anybody in baseball recently and Cashman realizes that.

Yeah...I'd pass on a young, dominating #1 starter in favor of paying the likes of Mike Mussina and Carl Pavano up the wazoo. Besides, since when did New Yorkers become concerned about their teams overpaying everyone in sight?

Really, you should learn something about baseball before you start talking stupid, like you do.

Zambrano is better than any of the current Cardinals pitchers, now does that mean anything no. Uh oh am I still a "hater", I'm so confused.

The things I've "hated" on the Cubs for:

1) Saying Jeff Samardzija wasn't as good as his signing bonus. Now he sure is impressing with his professional K/9 of 4, but hell what do I know. And please don't being up his small sample size at AA.

2) Rich Hill wouldn't finish the season with an ERA under 3. Wow, look who is right there, me again. See a pattern?

3) Saying I'd rather have Schilling over Zambrano over the next couple years. Seriously one pitches in the AL East, the other in the worst division in baseball. One walks way too many hitters, and the other doesn't. If they switched spots Schilling's ERA would be a good amount better.
