155 is crazy

Tony missed out on history. He could have potentially been the first ever simultaneous two time Interm champ!

Man, Poirier? He's got that win against a 20-y-o Max, I get it. But, please, I give Anthony whateverhisnameis about a good of a shot against Jones next weekend. Squared-up, gritty, come forward fighter? That's not the antidote to Max.

I mean if Tony really turned it down like Dana said (doubt that's the whole story) then on merit it's legit. Although I agree Max kills Dustin.

I didn't know Tony turned it down. I guess, fair enough, the UFC are in a rough spot. For one thing, the three best LWs in the world will be watching this from the sidelines.

What’s crazy about Tony turning it down is that he likely lost his khabib fight as the ufc will do Khabib for interm first.

I’m guessing Tony vs Conor might be the only option he has

IIRC, Tony already win an interim title and got stripped of it due to an injury, they scheduled Holloway as his replacement and made the fight for the real title, and then Holloway couldn't make weight. Easy to see Tony asking for some assurances.

Maybe, and perhaps they'd do that just to **** with Tony, but Interim belt used to mean a shot at the real belt, now it means nothing, they could do anything.

Dana wouldn’t see this as **** with him though.
Dana stated at a presser just a week or two ago it. He was questioned about the worth of rankings and guys feeling pissed that theirs no rhyme or reason. They gave tony and Colby as examples. Dana said he gave Tony the khabib fight but got injured. The machine keeps rolling, they aren’t icing the champion to fight the interm. When Tony is healthy he gets the next shot.
Colby was given the Woodly fight but turned it down due to money or some other issue. It sounded like he was trying to leverage the interm title into a big pay day and it backfired. He was given the fight, turned it down so they moved on.
In this case I thibk Dana will say he offered Tony the fight, he turned it down, so Max or Dustin took his spot.
Tony screwed up here most likely, unless he’s getting the Conor fight, in which case that’s a better fight for him due to the massive purse

Tony-Khabib is the only fight to make. Don't believe anything regarding interim titles being a guaranteed shot at the title. They mean next to nothing and this is clearly just to fill a main event slot.

If Max wins, I think he gets the fight. It would be the 155 champ vs the 145 champ and 155 interm champ.
Aside from Colby, who turned down the fight, how many interm champions didn't get the next crack at the title?

Colby and Tony are the only examples to my recollection. But you have to remember, it's only been a little over 2 years since WME bought the UFC that they have went crazy with this interim title nonsense.

Personally I don't understand how you create an interm title for one fight. That to me just means it's stupid. If it's a situation where the guy is in an accident and is out for an indefinite amount of time, then it makes sense. But a one fight interm title is pointless. Just make it a number one contender fight and leave it at that.

I agree of course. Pretty sure Ariel has mentioned that WME has a policy where a ppv must be headlined by a title fight. I'm sure there are exceptions like if Conor was fighting or something. But otherwise the title is what they use to promote a PPV off the backs of Ferguson vs Lee or whatever.

UFC has been creating interim belts out of thin air for a while and it's all just for show. Creating an interim title for the MW division when Whitaker is only out until summer (as per him) makes little sense too. It's essentially one fight.

Nobody cares because he's a douche, but Danis getting a longer suspension for UFC 229 than Conor and Khabib (If Khabib does the PSA) is a joke.

He should challenge that, it's a joke.
A guy jumped him and he's getting suspended for it. What a crock.

So Ali and Usman try to corner Colby and then Ali starts swinging on him.

This **** is getting rediculous. Ali’s team has now been a part of two attacks. Ban his ass. It’s pathetic, he’s a piece of garbage.
Colby is a douche but these two are literally fighting next, let them fight there.

Ali is trash. How many fights has he been in or instigated? Hell he and Usman beat up fans at WSOF. Ali tried to fight Jimmie Rivera backstage once. Hell he still tweets that the Conor thing isn't over and he wants revenge for that whole thing. Oddly enough he's never been in a confrontation when he wasn't standing behind Usman or Khabib or whoever. Just a classic "you're lucky they're holding me back!" type of guy.

It's going to be funny when someone swats that twerp like a fly.
