It's become clear to me that the team HAS to re-sign him - moreso than Sato - who I love to watch - but Sato's 6 or so years older, so we know what his ceiling is. Bryant's already good and should be one of the building blocks of the organization.

Why not try Bryant and Portis together against teams that don't have bigs that are great 3 point shooters? It's not like the Wiz have a real PF. Green doesn't rebound at all and isn't much of an interior defender.

I was thinking the same about Bryant and Portis myself last night. They both seem to have enough shooting ability to not make it a liability.

See, brilliant minds think alike. Yeah, offensively I think they can mesh very well. Defense is a question especially against teams with good outside shooting bigs - as they'll have trouble closing out on 3's.

He does so many things well that it's tough not to fall in love with his potential, but his rebounding definitely needs some help.

If you can pair him with a rebounding madman at the four, he'd be a reasonable option at the 5 even with his questionable production grabbing balls from the rim.

Not sure what you mean -- Thomas Bryant is leading the team in rebounding. He's averaging just under 12.2 boards per 40 minutes. That's about 18% more than an average NBA big. He's above that average in both defensive & offensive boards, btw.

Otoh, he did not rebound well vs. the Nets, & Portis did.

Overall, however, he's out-rebounding Portis on the Wizards & also out-rebounding Bobby's career average.

Not to bring down the average, but I was wondering the same thing -- why isn't Brooks playing Portis & Bryant at the same time?

In fact, if he did, then he could play Dekker at the 3 for rebounding, defense & efficient 2 pt. shooting -- both Bobby & Thomas shoot the 3 really well, so spacing seems unlikely to suffer.

Instead, we're playing Ariza 37 minutes a game & encouraging him to take over eight 3's per 40 minutes at 31%. Brilliant, huh?

Especially brilliant since Dekker & Ariza score the same # of points per 40 minutes but Dekker does it slightly more efficiently than Ariza -- & also out-rebounds Ariza by about 35%, steals the ball more often than Trevor, & turns it over less often.

Go figure.

I would be starting Sato, Beal, Dekker, Portis & Bryant. Bring the old fogies Ariza & Green* off the bench along w/ Parker (since there's no one else). Make Brown the primary back-up at the 2.

What could happen? Could we go 3-7 in February? We already did that!

* I like calling Green & Ariza "old fogies," because their combined age is short of mine by over a decade! :)

These guys can’t even tank properly.

And why, oh why, are Green and Ariza even still on the team, much less starting and playing heavy minutes?

Does Leonsis know that people in sports media make jokes about EFG?
